Cross Limits of Decency in Attacking, Get Beaten Up with Shoes: TMC MP to Oppn

Senior TMC MP Saugata Roy on Sunday said if the BJP and CPI(M) cross the limits of decency while attacking his party for the misdeeds of a few, their leaders should not complain if beaten up with shoes and driven out of their localities. Roy said he was aghast over the spate of “defamatory attacks” against every TMC leader after the arrests of senior party functionaries Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mondal by central agencies in different cases. He later said that the shoe comment is a rhetoric and not to be taken literally. Addressing a street corner meeting here, he said, “If there is any BJP or CPI(M) activist here, listen carefully. If any of you cross the limits of decency by branding every one of the TMC as thieves while attacking the party, don’t blame us if our party men beat you up with shoes.” “Don’t complain if you are driven out of your locality by our members,” he added. Reacting to Roy’s remarks, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said the comments of the retired professor show how verbal abuses have become the trend in the TMC. Shedding his mask of civility, Saugata Roy adopted the language of the lumpen. Very soon the people of Bengal will turn against the corrupt TMC in public and leaders like Roy will face the music,” Majumdar said. CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakraborty claimed that Roy is trying to raise his ratings in the TMC hierarchy by making such comments. “If he wants to threaten us, let me tell him that our cadre is ready to face the TMC’s rowdyism on road,” he said. Trinamool Congress state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh sought to defend his party colleague, saying that attacks by the entire opposition against every TMC leader after the arrest of Chatterjee and Mondal probably made a veteran MP like Roy utter such comments. Later, Roy told PTI that the shoe comment was “a rhetoric used by the Naxalites in the early 1070s. It should not be taken literally.” Roy’s comment came a few days after he remarked that shoes will be made by peeling off the skin of those who believe they can get away by maligning the TMC under the garb of protest. However, he later regretted making such a remark. Read all the Latest Politics News and Breaking News here

BJP MLA Threatens to Damage Venue of Munawar Faruqui's Show, Taken into Preventive Custody

Singh allegedly threatening to cause damage at the venue at Madhapur near here has gone viral since the last few days, the police said.

BJP MLA in Telangana T Raja Singh was on Friday taken into preventive custody by the police here when he tried to reach the venue of a show by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Singh allegedly threatening to cause damage at the venue at Madhapur near here has gone viral since the last few days, the police said.

Faruqui’s show is scheduled for Saturday. Singh, the MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad, was taken into preventive custody from his residence at Mangalhat in the old city and would be released, the police said.

Singh, known for his strong Hindutva views, alleged that Faruqui had insulted Hindu Gods in his show in the past and that had attracted police cases. The MLA took exception to ruling TRS working president and State Minister K T Rama Rao reportedly extending an invite to Faruqui.

This is a reference to Rama Rao’s comments last year that Hyderabad is a true cosmopolitan city which welcomes all cultures and criticism and that the shows of the likes of Munawar Faruqui are not cancelled. Raja Singh claimed that talented artistes from Telangana should be encouraged, instead of inviting someone who insults God. Urging Rama Rao and the DGP to cancel permission to Faruqui’s show, he said the developments would be “different” otherwise.

Janmashtami 2022 | From Dreams to 'Emulating' God, 'Krishna Connect' in Politics Has Distinct Tune

On the occasion of Janmashtami, which is considered to be the birthday of Hindu Lord Krishna, people are celebrating across the country. Various politicians too have wished citizens on the day, invoking the blessings of the Hindu God.

But what may be less known that Lord Krishna has always had his limelight in politics, as well. From leaders who are devotees of Krishna, to those who have claimed to have been visited by the God in their dreams ‘to convey certain messages’, let’s take a look at our politics’ ‘Krishna connect’:

‘I’m the Lord Krishna of Bihar Politics’: Tej Pratap

Even as political developments in Bihar were taking place ahead of a change of guard, an old video of RJD leader and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav, went viral on social media. In the video, Tej Pratap claimed to have replaced a “no-entry” board for the former Bihar CM and JD(U) leader with a “Entry Nitish Chacha ji” board.

He also claimed that since he put up the board, Nitish Kumar has visited them, and thus a government would be formed. “It’s a secret,” Tej Pratap had claimed, adding, “I had a secret conversation with Nitish Ji.”

Tej Pratap also referred to himself as the Lord Krishna of Bihar politics. He stated, “Politics has far too many ups and downs. Power can shift at any time.”

Devout Indian-origin Politicians Abroad

British Conservative leader Rishi Sunak, who is vying for the prime ministerial post in the UK following Boris Johnson’s fall, also invoked the blessings of Krishna ahead of Janmashtami. Sharing a photo on Instagram, Sunak said, “”Today I visited the Bhaktivedanta Manor temple with my wife Akshata to celebrate Janmashtami, in advance of the popular Hindu festival celebrating Lord Krishna’s birthday.”

He is not the only politician from abroad who has sought the Hindu God’s blessings. In the US, Tulsi Gabbard, the United States’ first Hindu lawmaker, had spoken about the importance of the Bhagavad Gita on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami in 2020. The leader has also often been seen attending and participating in ISCKON events.

“2020 is certainly a year that will not be forgotten. For most, if not all of us, it has brought many unexpected changes. Changes to our daily routines, our work, and even our relationships. But whenever we are put into difficult situations, it gives us the opportunity to take shelter in the loving protection of the Supreme Lord, our Supreme Friend. It propels us to reflect upon and draw upon the lessons we’ve learned from the past, an also to consider what changes we can make to live a better life now and in the future,” she had said.

Gabbard recalled her time in the Middle East, ‘where danger awaited her at every turn’ and new uncertainties awaited her every day. According to the lawmaker, she sought refuge in the Bhagavad Gita. “‘The Song of God,’ as spoken by Shri Krishna, is full of transcendental wisdom that is just as relevant today as it was 5,000 years ago,” she said.

The ‘Dream Connect’

And in an interesting turn of events that took place before the UP assembly elections, some leaders claimed Lord Krishna had visited them in their dreams to convey messages. In January this year, Harnath Singh Yadav, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP, claimed that Lord Krishna appeared in his dreams and told him that CM Yogi Adityanath should contest assembly elections from Mathura. On Monday, the MP wrote to BJP President JP Nadda, pleading with him to declare Yogi as the party’s candidate in the constituency.

According to Yadav, Lord Krishna appeared in his dream twice on a fateful night and asked him to be a “madhyastha” (mediator) and convey the message that it is His will for Yogi to run for office from Mathura. “I immediately sent a letter to Nadda ji,” he said, adding, “Yogi ji himself had stated that we cannot abandon the Krishna Janambhoomi work, especially after our success in Ayodhya and Kashi.”

Around the same time, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had also claimed that Lord Krishna came to his dreams every night to tell him that he would form the government and establish “Ram Rajya” in Uttar Pradesh.

“The way to Ram Rajya is through the path of Samajwad (socialism). The day ‘Samajwad’ is established, the “Ram Rajya” will be set up in the state,” the SP president had said, adding that “Lord Sri Krishna comes to my dreams every night to tell me that our government is coming up (in UP).”

Akhilesh Yadav Optimistic About JD(U)-BJP Break Up in Bihar, Says Beginning of 'BJP Satta Chhodo'

The change of government in Bihar has filled the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh with ‘optimism’. SP President Akhilesh Yadav sees the BJP-JD(U) break-up as a “good start” for Indian politics.

“This is the beginning of the end. It signals ‘BJP satta chhodo’ on the lines of ‘Angrezo Bharat chhodo’ slogan that was coined during the Independence movement,” he stated.

Talking to reporters in Kannauj, Akhilesh said: “People in our communities are no longer getting postings in institutions and all BJP supporters are being appointed to key posts at universities and educational institutions.”

He further warned, “If they get more powerful, then your right to vote might also be taken away. People should not take such possibilities lightly as this was exactly what was happening in many countries in India’s neighbourhood.”

Akhilesh also targetted the ruling BJP for selling away public enterprises to corporates. He said the way in which the safron party was selling over government establishments like railways, airports and airlines, a time will come when people will be treated like slaves.

“If they (BJP) remain in control, all of us will turn into slaves,” Akhilesh said.

He added, “In days to come the government will not buy your wheat, private people will buy your wheat.”

The SP president further said that the BJP government is not the government of the poor and farmers.

“This is a government of industrialists. Since the BJP came to power, inflation has increased. From diesel-petrol to gas cylinders, milk, curd–everything has become expensive. Farmers are suffering losses in agriculture. Farmers are not even getting the cost price of their crops. Not only this, the BJP government has cheated the youth by introducing the Agniveer scheme in the Army,” he said.

He said, “In the coming time, this government will also bring a similar scheme in the recruitment of police and PAC. This government has also done government jobs on contract. The youth are not getting jobs. A large number of youths are unemployed. The BJP government is only working for the welfare of the Industrialists.”

Should ask their wives how they’re running the kitchen: AIUDF chief slams BJP on price rise

The BJP has been taking fire from the Opposition over the soaring prices of food, fuel and other commodities. The latest to join the chorus of opprobrium is All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal, who slammed the ruling party’s leaders for their seeming apathy to the common people’s suffering.

Ajmal first trained his guns on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying, “India's money is with FM. How will she know how much a person spends to buy?”

He then took a swipe at ministers and MPs from the saffron party for being apparently clueless about how rising prices were affecting the populace, calling on their wives to bring them up to speed. He also had a word of warning for the BJP.

“No inflation for any minister. BJP MPs should ask their wives how're they running the kitchen. Government should take note otherwise inflation will eat up their government in 2024,” the AIUDF chief said.

Opposition parties have targeted the BJP-led Centre on skyrocketing inflation in recent months. Leading the attack is the Congress, whose leaders hit the streets on Friday in a nation-wide protest against price rise and unemployment .

While Congress leaders in Delhi had planned to gherao the prime minister's residence and a protest march to Rashtrapati Bhavan before being rounded up and detained, party workers across the country staged protests and dharnas outside Raj Bhavans.

Wearing black clothes, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi led the charge in Parliament where party MPs took out a protest march and were detained by the police at Vijay Chowk while they were on their way to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Priyanka Gandhi led at the AICC headquarters here, where hundreds were detained by the police amid dramatic standoffs.

While several BJP leaders called the protests an attempt to save the Gandhi family from the Enforcement Directorate probe against them, Home Minister Amit Shah linked the protest in black clothes to the party's "appeasement" politics to convey its opposition to the Ram temple foundation laying by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2020.

Shah said the Congress was using issues like ED action and price rise only as excuses.

BJP falsely claiming credit for freedom struggle, says Congress

Mayura Jayakumar asked Congress workers to work for returning the party to power both in the State and at the national level

Mayura Jayakumar asked Congress workers to work for returning the party to power both in the State and at the national level

Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mayura Jayakumar said on Friday that Congress leaders fought for the Independence and the BJP was falsely claiming credit for it.

After inaugurating the 15-km ‘walkathon’ organised by the Congress from Mattu to Shirva in Udupi district to commemorate the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahothsav’, he said that the RSS and the then Jan Sangh were not in favour of India getting freedom from the British.

‘‘Now it is the duty of the Congress leaders to make people aware of the reality on the occasion of 75 years of Independence,’’ he said.

Mr. Jayakumar said that the BJP had resorted to hate politics by making the Enforcement Directorate question the top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It is targeting Congress leaders, he said.

‘‘It is a disgrace when the nation is celebrating the 75 years of Independence, the BJP has resorted to do vendetta politics,’’ he said.

He asked Congress workers to work for returning the party to power both in the State and at the national level. Only the Congress can restore unity and uphold secularism, he said.

KPCC working president R. Druvanarayan, former Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and others participated in the walkathon.

'You have a job in Lok Sabha': BJP MP’s 5-year-old daughter leaves PM Modi in splits

An interaction with BJP MP Anil Firojiya's 5-year-old daughter left Prime Minister Narendra Modi in splits on Wednesday. Firojiya, a BJP member from Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain, visited the Prime Minister with his family at Parliament.

Their interaction turned out to be quite memorable, as when PM Modi reportedly asked Ahana Firojiya whether she knew who he was, the 5-year-old replied, “Yes, I know you are Modi ji. Aap TV par roz aatein hain (you are on TV every day)."

Following this, the PM asked her, “Do you know what I do?" To this, Ahana instantly responded, “Aap Lok Sabha mein naukri karte ho (You work in Lok Sabha)."

Listening to this, everyone in the room burst out laughing and the laughing PM Modi gave chocolate to the girl before she left the room. In the past too, PM Modi has been spotted having fun conversations with kids.

Ahana's father recently hit the headlines for losing weight after taking up a challenge presented by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Sharing photos of his family members meeting PM Modi in a series of tweets, Firojiya said, "Today is an unforgettable day. Privileged to meet the most popular leader of the world, the most successful Prime Minister of the country and the most respected Shri @narendramodi ji. Received his blessings and the mantra of selfless service to the public," he tweeted.

"I am fortunate that I have also got an opportunity to serve the public in the presence of such a hardworking, honest, selfless and sacrificing Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, who has dedicated his entire life to the country," Firojiya said in another tweet.

He also said, “Today both my daughters, younger girl Ahana and elder girl Priyanshi are very happy and overwhelmed to meet the respected Prime Minister directly and get his affection."

Nagaland Deputy CM to News18

The release of a joint statement by the National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the finalisation of seat-sharing for next year’s Nagaland assembly polls has become a bone of contention within the saffron outfit as the state’s deputy chief minister and BJP MLA Yanthungo Patton has said that he was not consulted before the declaration.

Irked by this “sudden statement”, Patton, who is in Delhi, said that he will go back to Nagaland and “discuss” this issue with BJP workers. The deputy CM told News18.com that Nalin Kohli, who is BJP incharge of the state and had signed the joint statement, should have kept him in the loop and discussed the arrangement with him.

“I will be going to Nagaland and need to have a discussion with my BJP karyakartas,” he said.

Patton also maintained that the joint statement was just a “statement” and was not the final scenario of seat-sharing.

“I think central leaders will consult us before making any decision. It is just a statement,” he said.

Patton said that while the decision was up to the central leaders, the BJP workers of the state should have been spoken to before such a big move.

“This is up to our central leaders. There are six to seven months before the next assembly elections. Our BJP legislative karyakartas have not been discussed (consulted). If the central leadership has taken the decision, I have no comments but still, we need to discuss this issue,” said Patton.

Asked whether he was consulted this time, Patton said, “I have not been consulted on this. It is up to central leaders to decide whether this is final or needs further discussion. Nalin Kohli is incharge of Nagaland and at least he could have consulted us and BJP workers of Nagaland. I have not spoken to Kohli.”

Earlier on Tuesday, a joint statement was issued by the BJP and NDPP. It said, “The leadership of the two parties led by BJP chief J P Nadda and chief minister Neiphiu Rio of NDPP have mutually agreed to continue the alliance with the seat sharing in the forthcoming assembly polls to Nagaland Legislative Assembly of 40:20, wherein NDPP will contest in 40 seats and BJP will contest on 20 seats. There will be no friendly contest in any constituency. A core committee of NDPP and BJP members will formulate the election strategy to decide the seats at an appropriate time to decide on each seat which party will contest.”

The NDPP-BJP alliance in Nagaland formed ahead of the 2018 assembly polls. The NDPP contested 40 seats and the BJP 20. The coalition won the mandate, with the NDPP bagging 16 seats and the BJP getting 12.

Tuesday’s statement also said, “The NDPP-BJP alliance has grown in strength and continued to win the popular support of the people in the past four years having emerged victorious in elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and by-elections in assembly.”

The National Democratic Progressive Party along with the BJP, together called the People’s Democratic Alliance and joined by independent legislators, have 34 MLAs in the 60-member assembly, elections for which will be held in 2023. Last year, the National People’s Front too joined the government, leaving the assembly without any opposition.
