West Indies vice-captain Anisa Mohammed to take six-month break from cricket

Anisa Mohammed, the West Indies vice-captain, has been granted leave from international cricket for a period of six months. "Mohammed requested to take a break from the game with immediate effect, after a hectic year of cricket both home and away," said a CWI statement, adding that the board had given Mohammed its "full support".

Offspinner Mohammed, just a few days away from her 34th birthday, hasn't played a T20I since West Indies' series at home against South Africa in September last year, but has turned out in 14 ODIs in the past 12 months. The last of them was in March this year at the 50-over World Cup in the semi-final against eventual champions Australia in Hamilton. It didn't end well for Mohammed on that occasion, as she pulled up with a hamstring injury while fielding and had to be driven from the field.

Mohammed, the highest wicket-taker in women's T20Is with 125 strikes in 117 games - to go with 180 wickets in 141 ODIs - has been a part of the action at the ongoing Women's CPL 2022, where she returned 1 for 9 in two overs in her only bowling innings, against Barbados Royals. Their second game, against Guyana Amazon Warriors, had to be called off because of rain, but Mohammed could be in the fray in the final, where Knight Riders will meet the winners of the Royals vs Amazon Warriors contest.

Prior to the WCPL, Mohammed played the women's 6ixty competition, where she turned out for Knight Riders as well. Knight Riders lost in the final to Royals then, and Mohammed finished the tournament with four wickets in four bowling innings, with an economy rate of 8.00.

Maria Shriver was spotted out and about in Santa Monica, California as she takes a step back from work for the month of August.

Shriver, 66, kept it casual for her outing in a white t-shirt and black yoga pants. The NBC News correspondent had her bangs pulled back out of her face. Shriver is currently building a home in the area and had stopped by the construction site to check on progress.

ARNOLD SHWARZENEGGER AND MARIA SHRIVER THROUGH THE YEARS Shriver's day out comes as she finishes up her month-long break from work. The former First Lady of California announced her break on Instagram weeks ago. "One practice I instituted a few years ago is taking the month of August away from work—away from writing my weekly column in @thesundaypaper, and away from my work at @nbcnews and @womensalzmovement. And now I’ve added @moshlife to my plate. I’ve been known to put too many things on my plate, so stepping back allows me to reflect on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it," she wrote on Instagram at the beginning of the month. "It allows me to look at everything on my plate and look for breathing space. It’s given me the chance to reboot." Shriver went on to encourage others to take a break from work every once in a while.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver's relationship fell apart after the former California governor secretly fathered a child with their housekeeper Mildred Baena in 1996. Schwarzenegger has maintained a relationship with Joseph, the son he shares with Baena.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have children as well. The former couple shares sons, Patrick and Christopher, along with their daughters, Christina and Katherine.

U.S. stock futures flat after Dow, S&P 500 break three-day slide

U.S. stock futures were flat on Wednesday night after all three major averages ended higher during the daily trading session. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose by 8 points, or 0.02%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.14% and 0.13%, respectively. Shares of Nvidia slid more than 2% on the heels of a quarterly report that missed Wall Street's expectations. Salesforce fell more than 4% after the company provided a disappointing forecast for fiscal 2023. Snowflake jumped 16% after posting a beat on revenue. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 59.64 points, or 0.18%, and the S&P 500 rose 0.29% Wednesday. For both averages, the gains snapped three-day long losing streaks. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite also ticked up 0.41%. The market action occurs as investors await the start of the Jackson Hole economic symposium, which begins Thursday with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell scheduled to speak the following morning. Traders will be listening for more information about how the central bank will combat high inflation and if policymakers may cut rates when the current hiking cycle is over. "It's steady as it goes, it's way too early for the Fed to consider a pivot," said Jim Bianco, president of Bianco Research, on CNBC's "Fast Money." Investors are also waiting for key economic reports scheduled to come out later in the week, including jobless claims Thursday and the personal consumption expenditures Friday. The PCE report is one of the Fed's favorite inflation measures, and it could influence its actions going forward.

Peloton reports quarterly earnings Thursday before the bell, along with Gap, Dollar Tree and Dollar General. Ulta Beauty, Workday and Affirm Holdings will release their own results after markets close Thursday.

Russia says ties could break over terror sponsor declaration by US

Russia has told the United States that bilateral diplomatic ties would be badly damaged and could even be broken off if Russia is declared a state sponsor of terrorism, Russian news agency Tass cited a top official as saying.

Alexander Darchiyev, head of the North American department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that if the US Senate succeeded in passing a law to single out Russia, this would mean Washington had crossed the point of no return, Tass said.

Zelenskyy: EU should ban rich Russians from entering

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a fresh call for European Union states to ban visas for Russian nationals to keep the bloc from becoming a "supermarket" open to anyone with the means to enter.

Zelenskyy said his proposal did not apply to Russians who needed help for risking their freedom or their lives by resisting Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's policies.

"There must be guarantees that Russian killers or accomplices of state terror not use Schengen visas," Zelenskyy said in an address, referring to visas granting the holder access to the border-free Schengen Area that spans several EU states.

Akhilesh Yadav Optimistic About JD(U)-BJP Break Up in Bihar, Says Beginning of 'BJP Satta Chhodo'

The change of government in Bihar has filled the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh with ‘optimism’. SP President Akhilesh Yadav sees the BJP-JD(U) break-up as a “good start” for Indian politics.

“This is the beginning of the end. It signals ‘BJP satta chhodo’ on the lines of ‘Angrezo Bharat chhodo’ slogan that was coined during the Independence movement,” he stated.

Talking to reporters in Kannauj, Akhilesh said: “People in our communities are no longer getting postings in institutions and all BJP supporters are being appointed to key posts at universities and educational institutions.”

He further warned, “If they get more powerful, then your right to vote might also be taken away. People should not take such possibilities lightly as this was exactly what was happening in many countries in India’s neighbourhood.”

Akhilesh also targetted the ruling BJP for selling away public enterprises to corporates. He said the way in which the safron party was selling over government establishments like railways, airports and airlines, a time will come when people will be treated like slaves.

“If they (BJP) remain in control, all of us will turn into slaves,” Akhilesh said.

He added, “In days to come the government will not buy your wheat, private people will buy your wheat.”

The SP president further said that the BJP government is not the government of the poor and farmers.

“This is a government of industrialists. Since the BJP came to power, inflation has increased. From diesel-petrol to gas cylinders, milk, curd–everything has become expensive. Farmers are suffering losses in agriculture. Farmers are not even getting the cost price of their crops. Not only this, the BJP government has cheated the youth by introducing the Agniveer scheme in the Army,” he said.

He said, “In the coming time, this government will also bring a similar scheme in the recruitment of police and PAC. This government has also done government jobs on contract. The youth are not getting jobs. A large number of youths are unemployed. The BJP government is only working for the welfare of the Industrialists.”
