Tim Ryan supports Ohio teachers for going on strike, not going to school over 'learning conditions'

Senate candidate Tim Ryan supports teachers in Columbus, Ohio, going on strike for the first few days of the school year after not being able to reach an agreement with the school board over "learning conditions."

According to The Columbus Education Association (CEA) website, the union filed a notice of intent to strike earlier this month, threatening to not show up to school until they could reach an agreement on their contract with the school board. Democrat Senate candidate Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio., supports the teacher's decision to strike, telling Fox News Digital, "With our kids losing so much ground over the last few years, it’s clear we need them back in the classroom – but that should not come at the expense of their health and safety with no air conditioning, leaky buildings and overcrowding." "I support our teachers standing up for the well-being of their students and urge Columbus City Schools to come back to the bargaining table," Ryan concluded. A press release from the association stated the reasons for the strike: "At issue is disagreement over learning conditions such as smaller class sizes, full-time Art, Music, and P.E. teachers at the elementary level, and functional heating and air-conditioning in classrooms, as well as adequate planning time, a cap on the number of class periods during the school day, outsourcing positions to private, for-profit corporations from outside the community, and recruiting and retaining the best educators for Columbus students." "CEA has consistently maintained that we are fighting not just for CEA members, but for our students and community.  That is why CEA will continue that fight until a fair agreement is reached for the schools Columbus Students Deserve," spokesperson for CEA Regina Fuentes wrote in the release.

With no incumbents in the Ohio Senate race, Ryan, who is currently representing Ohio's 13th Congressional District, is running for Senate against Trump-endorsed GOP nominee JD Vance.

Netflix orders sequel and spinoff to Ryan Gosling film 'Gray Man'

Netflix is turning its new spy thriller The Gray Man into a franchise, announcing plans on Tuesday for a sequel and spinoff to the action movie starring Ryan Gosling.

The Gray Man, one of Netflix’s most expensive movies to date, began streaming on Friday and was the most watched film on the streaming service in 92 countries, the company said.

Gosling stars in the film as Sierra Six, a former inmate sprung from prison by the CIA in exchange for servitude in a secret program.

The sequel is now in development with Gosling and directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Netflix said in a statement.

The company also announced a separate spinoff movie but did not provide details on the storyline or characters.

The expansion is part of Netflix’s strategy to build brands with well-known characters that can traverse film, television, video games and movies.

Ryan Gosling decided to play Ken in 'Barbie' after he found the doll in the mud

As Gosling tells it, some time ago, director Gerwig offered Gosling the part of Ken. The script was the "best ... [he'd] ever read," he told host Jimmy Fallon, but he wanted to take a moment and consider the decision in the fresh air.

When he walked into his backyard, he received a sign from the universe: An otherwise-pristine, shirtless Ken doll, facedown in the mud next to a "squished lemon," Gosling said.

The future Ken snapped a photo of the affecting scene, perhaps a sign from the universe, and texted it to Gerwig.

"I said, 'I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told,'" Gosling told Fallon.

And though the film recently wrapped, Gosling is continuing to name-drop his beloved Mattel character wherever he goes, even when he's promoting his other projects, and he defends Ken fiercely against detractors.

"I was surprised how some people were kind of clutching their pearls about my Ken, as if they ever thought about Ken for a second before this!" Gosling said, pointing a faux-angry, accusatory finger. "They never played with Ken!"

Then the conversation turned bleak and existential: "Nobody plays with Ken, man," Gosling lamented. "He's an accessory, and not even one of the cool ones."

This isn't the first time Gosling has considered the failings of Ken's seemingly plush life. In an interview earlier this month with Entertainment Tonight, Gosling said that life in plastic is much harder than the life of the fictional mercenary he plays in Netflix's "The Gray Man."

"Ken's got no money, he's got no job, he's got no car, he's got no house," Gosling said in the earlier interview. "He's going through some stuff."

But the "Barbie" film will be much more fun than Gosling's devastating descriptions of Ken make it out to be, he assured Fallon this week.

"Those are not plot details; those are just objective facts about Ken," he said. "That's the Ken life."

Until "Barbie" hits theaters in July 2023, we can just hope the universe will continue to guide Gosling to wedge Ken into all his interviews for the foreseeable future.
