Rashid Minhas paid homage on 51st martyrdom anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Saturday paid homage to the Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas (Nishan-i-Haider) on his 51st martyrdom anniversary, ARY NEWS reported on Friday.

The PAF also released a documentary highlighting the courage of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, who foiled a bid to hijack a plane and fly it to India.

The brave son of Pakistan was born on 17 February 1951 in Karachi. He belonged to the famous Minhas clan of Rajputs.

His childhood fascination with aircraft and aviation led him to what he truly was destined for. Minhas embraced his true passion after school and earned a degree in military history and aviation history from the University of Karachi.

He was commissioned as a pilot in the Pakistan Air Force in 1971.

Minhas was taxiing toward the runway when a Bengali instructor pilot, Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman, signalled him to stop and then climbed into the instructor’s seat. The jet took off and turned toward India.

Minhas radioed PAF Base Masroor with the message that he was being hijacked. The air controller requested that he resend his message, and he confirmed the hijacking. Later investigation showed that Rahman intended to defect to India to join his compatriots in the Bangladesh Liberation War, along with the jet trainer.

However, Minhas did the only thing within his control and forced that plane to crash just 32 miles from the Indian border, deliberately sacrificing his life for the honour of Pakistan.

Bryce Dallas Howard says she was paid less than Chris Pratt for 'Jurassic World' films

The actress, speaking to Insider, said she was paid "so much less" than her co-star Chris Pratt for their work in the "Jurassic World" films, released in 2015, 2018 and 2022.

"When I started negotiating for 'Jurassic,' it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage," she said. "And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and so your deals are set."

Eventually, she said, she discussed the disparity with Pratt, who took action to get his co-star equal terms on other franchise-related opportunities, like games and theme park rides.

"He literally told me: 'You guys don't even have to do anything. I'm gonna do all the negotiating. We're gonna be paid the same, and you don't have to think about this, Bryce,'" Howard said. "And I love him so much for doing that. I really do, because I've been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie."

CNN has reached out to Howard's representative for further comment.

In the films, Howard stars as Claire Dearing, the Jurassic World operations manager, and Pratt plays Owen Grady, a Velociraptor expert and dinosaur handler.

"Jurassic World: Dominion," the sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise, brought in an estimated $143.3 million in its opening weekend.
