Chris Lynn signs 11-game Adelaide Strikers BBL deal to split time with ILT20

Chris Lynn, the leading run-scorer in BBL history, has signed with Adelaide Strikers in a deal that will see him play 11 of the 14 group matches before heading to the UAE to take up his ILT20 stint with Gulf Giants.

In what is a significant deal, a compromise has effectively been reached for Lynn to split himself between the two T20 competitions. He will be granted a No Objection Certificate from January 20, with Lynn's last Strikers match being their clash with his former club Brisbane Heat in Adelaide on January 14. It means he will miss the opening matches of the ILT20 which is due to start on January 6.

There had been the threat of a stand-off between Lynn and CA with the batter not holding a contract anywhere in Australia, after being released by Heat earlier this year and signing up with the ILT20, but still requiring an NOC. The legal advice was that CA could have been taken for restraint of trade if they had tried to enforce that position.

"Cricket Australia welcomes the Adelaide Strikers' signing of Chris Lynn," a CA spokesperson said. "He will be released from 20 January to participate in UAE's ILT20 competition from that date.

"Lynn does not hold a CA or State contract and has not done so since his last Queensland Cricket contract expired in June 2019. Each matter regarding release for overseas competitions is subject to the individual's circumstances.

"Our guiding principle remains the prioritisation and protection of Australia's domestic summer of cricket and the interests of the game overall."

Lynn will face his former club twice during the BBL season with a trip to the Gabba on December 23.

"We all know the qualities that Chris Lynn brings to the table. He is a proven match-winner, an experienced leader and a great character to have around the group," Strikers' head coach Jason Gillespie said. "His record speaks for itself. We're thrilled to have him and know he can play an important role for us this summer."

He had been a single-club player in the BBL until being cut by Heat in May as the club opted to look elsewhere to try and revive their fortunes. He had a lean 2021-22 tournament with 215 runs in 12 innings but in recent months enjoyed a prolific T20 Blast campaign with Northamptonshire.

Lynn's deal follows the big-money offer made to David Warner in his two-year deal to return to Sydney Thunder. With the increasing competition from new T20 leagues, CA has had to make pragmatic decisions to ensure key players appear in the BBL.

Texas schools hanging 'In God We Trust' signs after new state law requiring donated signs be posted

"In God We Trust" signs are popping up in Texas classrooms following a new state law that requires schools to display the posters if they are donated.

Senate Bill 797 passed through the Texas legislature last year requiring schools to display the posters in a "conspicuous place" as long as they were "donated" or "purchased by private donations" which has resulted in the signs being displayed across the state recently, FOX 7 Austin.

Patriot Mobile, a Texas-based cell phone company, donated several signs to the Carroll Independent School District that are currently on display.

"Patriot Mobile has donated framed posters to many other school districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and we will continue to do so until all the schools in the area receive them," the company posted on Facebook. "We are honored to be part of bringing God back into our public schools!"

The Houston Chronicle reported that similar signs were spotted around the Texas cities of Houston and Austin.

"The national motto, In God We Trust, asserts our collective trust in a sovereign God," Texas Republican State Sen. Bryan Hughes, who sponsored the legislation, said on Twitter. "I co-authored the bill in 2003 that allowed schools to display the motto, and last year I authored the ‘In God We Trust Act,’ which requires a school to display the motto if there is no cost associated with the display."

Bryce Nieman, spokesperson for the Keller Independent School District, told that donated signs are being displayed mainly in front offices. 

A Keller resident and parent of a child in the school district expressed support for the measure.

"If it’s important to communities, the community will come behind it," Erik Leist told FOX 7. "If it’s not something that the community values, it’s not gonna end up in the school."

Not everyone is pleased with the new law including the founder of the Southlake Anti-Racism Coalition who told KXAS-TV that the law raises concerns about the separation of church and state. 

"I feel like they don’t have a choice right now to put them up," Anya Kushwaha said. " But hopefully this will spark larger conversations about having more freedom of expression, so if they are allowed to put up signs like this there should be no reasons that other students or people can’t put up signs that have different messaging."

Kiely Rodni: California police 'modifying' search effort next week as few signs of missing teen emerge

The search for missing 16-year-old Kiely Rodni will be scaled down to a "task force"-based investigation next week, California investigators said Monday, 10 days after the teen vanished under disturbing circumstances.

"We are still looking for any clues, videos, tips, any information to help us to put pieces together and help us to direct where we're going and how we're going to continue to do a search," Capt. Sam Brown, of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, said during a Monday news briefing. "We are moving into a more limited but continuous search and rescue effort."

He said the massive interagency search effort has put in more than 9,000 man-hours since Rodni was reported missing on Aug. 6.

"Our biggest problem is where do we go, and how do we keep sustaining this?" he added.

The search started last week in the immediate area of where the girl's phone had last pinged, near the Prosser Creek Reservoir, and has steadily expanded outward. Police have been unable to locate the girl, her SUV or any other signs.

And they say they have still not found anyone who actually saw Rodni leaving the area before she went missing. They are asking for anyone who may have taken photos or videos to share them with investigators.

"I'd like to say that we're putting the pedal down, that we are continuing to work this week, and that after this week we will be modifying things to a task force style," said Lt. Josh Barnhart, of the Placer County Sheriff's Office. "That means our resources will continue to move forward, but in somewhat of a different manner."

The FBI has partnered with local detectives to conduct interviews with people at the party and residents who live nearby, and the public has largely been cooperative, Barnhart said.

"I would say for the most part, everyone has been very cooperative," he said.

Detectives have also overcome earlier resistance from at least one parent who allegedly told their children, who had attended the party, not to aid in the investigation.

"Many people have come forward and given us information, but we haven't run into very large roadblocks and people not wanting to give us information," Barnhart said. "I think [that] was probably an isolated incident that we were able to get past."

Rodni, who was last seen at a packed outdoor party with hundreds of other young people just after midnight on Aug. 6, has an outdoorsy upbringing and strong resolve, according to Cassie Hebel, a family friend and spokesperson.

"She has more than the survival skills to make it back," she said Monday. "She was raised in a family where they know how to survive in the outback, in the ‘Back 40’ as I like to say. That is where she was raised."

The party, near the Prosser Family Campground in the Tahoe National Forest, involved between 200 and 300 juveniles and young adults, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. There was suspected use of drugs and alcohol, and Rodni’s friend told Fox News Digital last week the girl was likely too drunk to have attempted driving.

Angela Musallam, a spokesperson for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, said during a Monday news briefing investigators were not ready to release the photo.
Separately, she told Fox News Digital, it contains no person of interest. She declined to discuss the video further, citing the open comment investigation.

At 16, Rodni had a full driver’s license and a silver 2013 Honda CRV, which is also missing, Hebel said Monday. She graduated high school early and with honors and hoped to study pediatric orthopedics and music in college. Her 17th birthday is next month.

The car has a ram head sticker under the rear windshield wiper, according to police. Hebel said it has no particular significance other than being an identifying characteristic, and it may have been on the car already when Rodni acquired it.

Rodni is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and about 118 pounds. She has blonde hair and hazel eyes. She has a tattoo on her ribs of the number "17." She has a nose ring and several other piercings and was wearing three gold necklaces the night she went missing, according to her friends.

She was wearing green Dickies pants, a black studded belt and a black spaghetti-strap bodysuit, according to authorities. And she was seen on video in a pink and white hoodie reading "ODD FUTURE" earlier on Aug. 5. She may have also been in possession of a dark gray hoodie with Lana Del Rey lyrics.

Chad military leader signs accord to launch peace talks with opposition

Chad's military ruler Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has signed a deal with more than 40 opposition groups to launch national peace talks later this month, although the main rebel outfit refused to take part.

The 38-year-old general and opposition representatives sealed the accord at a ceremony in Doha on Monday after five months of mediation by Qatar.

The Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), the main rebel group, said it would not sign the deal despite last-minute efforts by Qatar's mediators.

In a video message to the ceremony, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called the signature "a key moment for the Chadian people" but said the national dialogue had to be "inclusive" to be successful.

Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said the accord aimed to establish "a peace to replace the trouble and strife that the country has known for many long years".

Peace talks

Forty-two of the 47 groups who remained at the end of the mediation signed the accord to start national talks, which are due to start in Chad's capital N'Djamena on August 20.

Deby took power after the death of his father, long-time president Idriss Deby Itno, in a battle with rebels in April last year.

He promised a national dialogue and elections within 18 months but the mediation has been fraught with discord.

Diplomats monitoring the negotiations said there would be a "race against time" to hold the election before October.

Deby has said his transitional rule could be extended but faces pressure from the international community to keep to the deadline.
