Maria Shriver was spotted out and about in Santa Monica, California as she takes a step back from work for the month of August.

Shriver, 66, kept it casual for her outing in a white t-shirt and black yoga pants. The NBC News correspondent had her bangs pulled back out of her face. Shriver is currently building a home in the area and had stopped by the construction site to check on progress.

ARNOLD SHWARZENEGGER AND MARIA SHRIVER THROUGH THE YEARS Shriver's day out comes as she finishes up her month-long break from work. The former First Lady of California announced her break on Instagram weeks ago. "One practice I instituted a few years ago is taking the month of August away from work—away from writing my weekly column in @thesundaypaper, and away from my work at @nbcnews and @womensalzmovement. And now I’ve added @moshlife to my plate. I’ve been known to put too many things on my plate, so stepping back allows me to reflect on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it," she wrote on Instagram at the beginning of the month. "It allows me to look at everything on my plate and look for breathing space. It’s given me the chance to reboot." Shriver went on to encourage others to take a break from work every once in a while.

Besides her journalism career, Shriver is well known for her previous marriage to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The two married in April 1986, but Shriver filed for divorce in 2011 after news broke that the actor had an affair with the family's housekeeper. The former couple's divorce was finalized in December 2021. Shriver and Schwarzenegger's property settlement had kept the divorce from being finalized all these years. Schwarzenegger and Shriver's relationship fell apart after the former California governor secretly fathered a child with their housekeeper Mildred Baena in 1996. Schwarzenegger has maintained a relationship with Joseph, the son he shares with Baena.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have children as well. The former couple shares sons, Patrick and Christopher, along with their daughters, Christina and Katherine.

What happened after the UAE changed its work week

The United Arab Emirates shifted its working week at the start of 2022 to better align with the rest of the world. The government's aim was to improve the work-life balance for citizens and cement Dubai's position as the business hub of the Middle East. But do its residents think the change has worked?

With just three-and-half-weeks' notice, the United Arab Emirates government changed the country's working week. Government employees began working Monday to Friday, with a flexible half day on Fridays, a change from the previous Sunday to Thursday work week.

While the decision was sudden, it wasn't a surprise. It was one of the many initiatives from authorities that aimed to boost the UAE's post-pandemic economy and help it stand out among its neighbors.

It also isn't the first time the country has changed its weekend. The UAE adopted Friday as a weekly holiday back in 1971 and didn't add Thursday to make it a two-day weekend until 1999. Then in 2006, the weekend was changed to Friday and Saturday.

Steven Valentino is the CEO and founder of the London Project, a restaurant in Dubai that specializes in brunches. The Friday brunch was hugely popular for champagne bottle-popping tourists and a mainstay for the city's "work hard, play hard" residents, but it has now moved to Saturday.

"When I speak to people that have been here for a long period of time, they have had trouble adjusting. You do notice the change, but I think really, everyone's adapted quite quickly," Valentino said.

So, how many private businesses are going along with the change? How does it affect the UAE's relationship with the rest of the region? Watch our video above to learn more.

Chicago prosecutor blasts Kim Foxx in resignation letter, can’t work for office 'I don't respect’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

An Illinois prosecutor took Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx to task in a scathing, office-wide resignation letter, saying her office cares more about political narratives than crime victims.

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Jim Murphy said he "can't continue to work for an administration I don't respect," in his letter resigning his position after 25 years of service. His last day was Friday, according to a copy of the letter obtained by Fox News.

"I wish I could stay," he wrote. "However, I can no longer work for this Administration. I have zero confidence in leadership."

Fox News has reached out to Foxx's office but has not received a response.

Murphy cited a number of reasons for his departure, including the "Safe-T Act," a measure that requires prosecutors to present a higher burden of proof to hold accused criminals until trial.

While Murphy said he supports eliminating cash-bail, he said Foxx's office rushed the reform and that his concerns were brushed aside. Murphy also cited "dangerously" low staffing levels in all units and bureaus in Foxx's office, to the point where one or two-person courtrooms are now common.

"If this administration was truly concerned with effectively fighting violent crime, then they would fully staff those courtrooms and units," he wrote. "Meanwhile the rest of us are overworked, overstressed, and under-resourced. But at least we were allowed to wear jeans in July."

Murphy said Foxx was angry one day several months ago when he was summoned into a meeting about bond hearings he was involved in. One involved a "massive shootout" and the other a woman who was gunned down walking to a store after being caught in the crossfire.

Murphy said Foxx was upset about a newspaper headline that indicated the suspect would not face a murder charge under the Safe-T Act. He said Foxx appeared to be more upset with the headline than the fact that a woman had died.

"That is what is wrong with this administration. I've seen day after day," he said. "How many mass shootings do there have to be before something is done."

"This administration is more concerned with political narratives and agendas than with victims and prosecuting violent crime," he added. "That is why I can't stay any longer."
