Youth basketball league participants in Los Angeles are still being required to wear masks while they are on the court more than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Los Angeles Uprising, an organization that pushes back against "restrictions and mandates," tweeted a picture of a youth basketball game from Saturday which shows participants wearing masks while on the court. The youth basketball game took place at the Mar Vista Recreation Center. In addition, participants over the age of 12 must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before entering any indoor park facility. The Los Angeles Uprising founder, who chose to remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital that the policy is absurd. "Obviously, at this point, there's no excuses anymore. You know, everyone has access to vaccines. Everyone can do it. Everyone's caught in this. At this point, it's just completely out of alignment," the LA Uprising founder said. GOV. "And no one in this city has ever fought for kids or said, 'Hey, let's make sure we get this in alignment for them.' Let's make sure that teens and kids this end of summer and fall don't have to deal with restrictions if they don't need to. But no one ever speaks up for the kids, certainly out of public health and certainly not in the city. They've never done that. They've never looked out for the kids. Never," he added. Jonathan Zachreson, founder of Reopen California Schools, told Fox News Digital that he thinks it's dangerous to have kids wearing masks while doing physical activity.

"I would say it's dangerous to have kids in physical activity, excessive exertion like basketball, to be in masks. And frankly, you know, we talk about mask choice and allowing people to make decisions for them and their families," he said.

Biden administration ends Trump-era 'Remain in Mexico' policy

Thousands of migrants forced to wait in Mexico under a Trump-era programme will gradually be allowed to enter the US to pursue asylum claims in coming weeks, Department of Homeland Security says.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ended a Trump-era policy requiring migrants and asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration court.

The programme will be unwound in a “quick, and orderly manner,” DHS said in a statement on Monday, hours after a judge lifted an order in effect since December that it be reinstated.

Informally known as "remain in Mexico", the policy pushed non-Mexican migrants and asylum-seekers back to Mexico to await resolution of their US cases, which sometimes took months or years.

The policy "has endemic flaws, imposes unjustifiable human costs, and pulls resources and personnel away from other priority efforts to secure our border,” the department said on Monday.

The announcement comes after the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of President Joe Biden in his administration's bid to end the programme on June 30.

The Biden administration will no longer enrol migrants in the programme and those currently waiting in Mexico will be allowed to enter the United States as they return for their next scheduled court dates, DHS said in the statement.

'Migrant Protection Protocols'

Many questions remain, including whether those whose claims have been denied or dismissed will get a second chance or if those whose next court dates are months away will be allowed to return to the US sooner.

Homeland Security said it will provide additional information “in the coming days.”

About 70,000 migrants were subject to the policy, known officially as “Migrant Protection Protocols,” from when President Donald Trump introduced it in January 2019 until Biden suspended it on his first day in office in January 2021, fulfilling a campaign promise.

Many were allowed to return to the US to pursue their cases during the early months of Biden’s presidency.

Nearly 5,800 people were subject to the policy from December through June, a modest number. Nicaraguans account for the largest number, with others from Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela.

Trump made the policy a centrepiece of border enforcement, which critics said was inhumane for exposing migrants to extreme violence in Mexico and making access to attorneys far more difficult.

KARACHI: MQM-P on Sunday has expressed fury toward the federal and Sindh government again.

Speaking during a press conference, MQM’s deputy convener Wasim Akhtar has asked the federal and provincial governments of Sindh to revise the policy.

He said that the party’s Rabita Committee is gravely concerned about the lack of implementation of the agreements signed with coalition parties before the vote of no-confidence.

“The committee will announce its next action plan,” he emphasised.

The former Karachi mayor added that efforts are being made to divide MQM’s vote bank by forming "fake political parties".

“Agreements are signed with MQM, which aren’t upheld later,” he said.

It should be noted that MQM is part of the coalition government in the federation, which includes other political parties such as PML-N, PPP, and JUI.
