Hiroshima official targets Russia in atomic bombing memorial speech

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui, in his peace declaration, has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of "using his own people as instruments of war and stealing the lives and livelihoods of innocent civilians in another country."

Russia's aggression on Ukraine is helping build support for nuclear deterrence, Matsui said, urging the world not to repeat the mistakes that destroyed his city 77 years ago by US nuclear bombers.

Matsui criticised nuclear weapon states, including Russia, for not taking steps despite their pledge to abide by obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"Rather than treating a world without nuclear weapons like a distant dream, they should be taking concrete steps toward its realisation," he said. Matsui cited Leo Tolstoy, the Russian author of "War and Peace", saying: "Never build your happiness on the misfortune of others, for only in their happiness can you find your own."

Zelenskyy: Russia must take responsibility for nuclear plant 'terror'

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his daily video address has said Russia should "take responsibility for the very fact of creating a threat to a nuclear plant", following a strike at Europe's largest nuclear site,

"Today, the occupiers have created another extremely risky situation for all of Europe: they struck the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant twice.

Any bombing of this site is a shameless crime, an act of terror," he said. The Ukrainian foreign ministry earlier said the "possible consequences of hitting a working reactor are equivalent to using an atomic bomb".

Moscow, in turn, has accused Ukrainian forces of targeting the plant.

AIMIM Chief Owaisi Targets NSA Doval Over Bigotry Remark

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday targeted National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, saying that he should tell everyone who is spreading religious bigotry in the country. “We were expecting that NSA should tell everyone who are these ‘some elements’ who are spreading bigotry. Why is he mincing words? He should tell,” Owaisi told reporters here today.

Doval on Saturday urged leaders of various faiths to counter the radical forces trying to create animosity in the name of religion and ideology that adversely affects the country and has international ramifications.

“Some people try to create animosity in the name of religion that adversely affects the entire country and also has ramifications internationally,” Doval said at the conference held in the backdrop of a number of incidents of religious discord in the country.

Everyone should raise their voice against religious bigotry, the NSA said at an interfaith conference – organised by the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council – which passed a resolution advocating a ban on organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI) for pursuing a “divisive agenda” and indulging in “anti-national activities”.

However, Owaisi did not answer a question on whether the PFI should be banned in the country. The PFI, a radical Islamic outfit, has been on the radar of security agencies over its suspected role in several incidents of riots in the country.

When asked that he is considered the hardliner in the country, Owaisi quipped, “In India, we are the only hardliners and all others are pure.” Owaisi was here to take part in an event. Talking about the political crisis in Sri Lanka, he said the situation was created as the Sri Lankan government hid the unemployment and price rise from people of the country.

“Data should be revealed. We expect that such a situation does not arise in India,” he said. He also alleged that the executive is making efforts to weaken the legislature in the Parliament because of which debates have reduced. In the Monsoon session, 14 bills were introduced in the Parliament and passed in a few minutes. Parliament sittings are held for 60-65 days in a year so in such a case how will the public issues will be raised, he added.

AOC-backed progressive group targets Democratic leadership over meddling in Republican primary

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A left-wing group dedicated to electing progressives that is backed by "Squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is targeting the national Democratic Party's leadership following recent attempts to meddle in a Republican congressional primary in Michigan.

"Democratic Party leadership will literally support Republicans before they start supporting progressives," Justice Democrats wrote in a Wednesday morning tweet that included a report detailing spending by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to boost the Trump-backed challenger to incumbent Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich.

The DCCC told Fox News on Monday that it plans to spend $425,000 on a new ad buy to boost Republican challenger John Gibbs against Meijer, who was one of the 10 House Republicans that voted to impeach former President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol.

The ad buy appears to be an effort by national Democrats to help Gibbs win the primary in hopes of setting up a more favorable general election showdown for Democratic candidate Hillary Scholten, who is running unopposed in the primary.

The Justice Democrats' reaction to the DCCC's involvement in the race highlights the continued divide between progressives and moderates in the party that have consistently clashed over various policy points and campaign strategy each election cycle.

Moderate Democrats have, however, continued to largely defeat their progressive challengers in primaries across the country this year as the party fights to minimize what many expect to be a victory for Republicans in November.
