Malaysia court to rule on graft case of jailed Najib's wife Rosmah

Rosmah Mansor faces three charges of soliciting bribes and receiving $1.5 million between 2016 and 2017 to help a company secure a project to provide solar energy panels to schools on Borneo island.

The wife of jailed ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak faces a verdict in her corruption trial involving a $279 million solar energy project, just days after her husband was imprisoned over the looted 1MDB state fund. Rosmah Mansor faces three charges of soliciting bribes and receiving $1.5 million between 2016 and 2017 to help a company secure a project to provide solar energy panels to schools on Borneo island. Before the verdict is delivered on Thursday, the court is expected to hear an application filed on Tuesday by Rosmah to disqualify High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan. Rosmah cited a loss of confidence in the judge after a 71-page document was leaked last Friday on a website that allegedly contained a guilty judgment against her. She said she was shocked to read it was not written by the judge himself but by unknown people in the court’s “research unit.” Rosmah, 70, said she was not confident that the judge can be fair as he may be influenced by third parties. She is requesting Zaini to recuse himself and for a retrial by a new judge.

Leaks of ruling drafts  Malaysia’s top court has slammed the action of the website, run by a blogger based in England, as “a deliberate act” to smear the court’s reputation and has lodged a complaint with police. Police have said the leaked document was research work on the ongoing trial and not a judgment. Last week, the court also filed a police report against the same website for publishing a document it said was the Federal Court’s guilty verdict against Najib, just before the ruling was read out in court. The court has said the leaked document was a working draft of the ruling. Najib began a 12-year prison term last week after losing his final appeal in one of the five graft cases against him involving the multibillion-dollar pilfering of 1MDB. Najib unsuccessfully tried to introduce fresh evidence  at the last minute to nullify the trial, accusing the trial judge of a conflict of interest. If found guilty, Rosmah is expected to remain out on bail for her appeal to higher courts. The couple have been hit with multiple counts of graft after the shocking ouster of Najib's United Malays National Organization in May 2018 elections, fueled by public anger over the 1MDB scandal.  UMNO has since returned to power after defections caused the collapse of the reformist government that won 2018 polls. Rosmah's trial had shed light on her alleged sway in the government since her husband took office in 2009.  First Lady of Malaysia's Hermes Prosecutors said Rosmah wielded considerable influence due to her “overbearing nature," even though she held no official position. Witnesses testified that a special department, called First Lady of Malaysia, was set up to handle Rosmah’s affairs. Her former aide told the court that many businessmen lobbied Rosmah for help to secure government projects. The aide testified Rosmah was feared by civil servants and requests from her department were often swiftly carried out. The court also heard that she spent $22,300 a month to hire online propagandists to deflect criticism of her lavish lifestyle that led to her being despised by many Malaysians. After Najib lost power, police raiding family residences seized hundreds of boxes of luxurious Hermes Birkin handbags, 423 watches, 14 tiaras and other jewelries plus cash estimated at more than $246 million. During her trial, 23 prosecution witnesses testified but only two defense witnesses were called, including Rosmah. She has told the court she was never involved in government affairs and that her former aide was a corrupt liar who had used her name to solicit bribes and pocketed the money himself. Separately, Rosmah has also been charged with laundering illegal proceeds and tax evasion linked to 1MDB in another trial that hasn’t started. 1MDB was a development fund that Najib set up after taking office. Investigators allege more than $4.5 billion was stolen from the fund and laundered by Najib’s associates. Judge plans to appoint a 'special master' to review documents in Trump's records case

A federal judge in Florida told the Justice Department on Saturday to provide her with more specific information about the classified records removed from former President Donald Trump's Florida estate and said it was her "preliminary intent" to appoint a special master in the case. The two-page order from U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon signals that she's inclined to grant a request from Trump's lawyers, who this week asked for the appointment of an independent special master to review the records taken from Mar-a-Lago and identify any that may be protected by executive privilege. The judge scheduled a Thursday hearing to discuss the matter further. A special master is often a former judge. Cannon also directed the Justice Department to file under seal with her more detailed descriptions of the material taken from Trump's property. The former president's lawyers have complained that investigators did not disclose enough information to them about what specific documents were removed when agents executed a search warrant on Aug. 8 to look for classified documents.

The special master appointment, if it happens, is unlikely to significantly affect the direction of the Justice Department investigation, though it's possible an outside review of the documents could slow the probe down.

Mexico rebukes Israel for 'protecting' suspect in missing students case

Tomas Zeron, the former head of Mexico's criminal investigation agency, reportedly fled to Israel in 2020 to evade an investigation into his handling of the case.

Last week, a truth commission determined that military personnel bore responsibility, either directly or through negligence, in the disappearance of 43 students.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has rebuked Israel's government for what he called its protection of a top former official wanted in Mexico on accusations he manipulated an investigation into the 2014 disappearance of 43 students. "Let me take the opportunity to send a respectful reminder to the government of Israel. They can't be protecting people like that," Lopez Obrador told a news conference on Wednesday, referring to his country's demand for the extradition of Tomas Zeron from Israel.  Lopez Obrador added that Israel's prime minister had sent a letter pledging cooperation, but had yet to take any further action. "It has been a long time," Lopez Obrador said. Mexico last year urged Israel to facilitate the extradition of  Zeron, the former head of Mexico's criminal investigation agency, who Mexican officials say fled to Israel in 2020 to evade an investigation into his handling of the case. Some 43 teaching students had commandeered buses in the southern state of Guerrero to travel to a demonstration before they went missing. An official report on their disappearance presented in 2015 by the then government was rejected by relatives as well as independent experts and the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. READ MORE: Mexico ex-top prosecutor to stand trial in disappeared students case The renewed pressure to bring Zeron to Mexico comes after officials last week arrested his prior boss, former attorney general Jesus Murillo, on charges of forced disappearance, torture and obstruction of justice linked to the probe into what became of the students. Zeron has previously denied allegations of wrongdoing. The Israeli government did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Mexican authorities have previously accused Zeron of planting evidence to support the previous administration's version of what happened after the abduction of the students, which officials last week called a "state crime" covered up by the highest levels of government at the time. Mexico ex-top prosecutor to stand trial in disappeared students case

Jesus Murillo Karam, who is accused of leading a botched investigation into the case, will be tried on charges of forced disappearance of 43 students in 2014, torture and obstruction of justice, authorities say.

A Mexican judge has agreed to hear the charges against the country's former attorney general Jesus Murillo in relation to his alleged role in the disappearance of 43 students in 2014, judicial authorities said. Jesus Murillo Karam, who led a highly contentious investigation into the case, will be tried on charges of forced disappearance, torture and obstruction of justice, the Federal Judiciary Council said on Wednesday after a court hearing. Murillo Karam, a former heavyweight of the once-dominant Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), was arrested earlier this week and is the highest-ranking official detained so far in connection with the case, which shocked the nation and generated international condemnation. He is considered the architect of the so-called "historical truth" version of events presented in 2015 by the government of then-president Enrique Pena Nieto that was widely rejected, including by relatives. The teaching students had commandeered buses in the southern state of Guerrero to travel to a demonstration in Mexico City before they went missing. Investigators say they were detained by corrupt police and handed over to a drug cartel that mistook them for members of a rival gang, but exactly what happened to them has been hotly disputed. According to the official report presented in 2015, cartel members killed the students and incinerated their remains at a garbage dump. Those conclusions were rejected by independent experts and the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the families. Commission blames military

Last week, a truth commission determined that military personnel bore responsibility, either directly or through negligence, in the disappearance of students.

"Their actions, omissions or participation allowed the disappearance and execution of the students, as well as the murder of six other people," said the commission's head, deputy interior minister Alejandro Encinas, on Thursday.  Mexico's top human rights official, Alejandro Encinas, has said that government involvement in the disappearance –– including local, state and federal officials –– constituted a "state crime." In the aftermath, the last government "concealed the truth of the facts, altered crime scenes, covered up the links between authorities with a criminal group."

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said in March that navy members were under investigation for allegedly tampering with evidence, notably at a garbage dump where human remains were found, including those of the only three students identified so far.

He denied an accusation by independent experts that Mexican authorities were withholding important information about the case, which shocked the country and drew international condemnation. Source: Reuters

The member of the presiding committee of the Islamic Council added: "When the issue of corruption was brought up in Mobarakeh Steel Company, the voice of the reformists was raised in the fight against corruption, but now that their names have been published among the corrupt, they have started the game of "Who was it, who was it, I wasn't there?" .

Salimi stated: The story of the reformists in the story of Foulad Mobarakeh corruption is the story of that wrongdoer and thief who runs in the market and shouts "Hey thief, thief."

ISLAMABAD: The PTI on Tuesday sought two weeks' time from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to respond to notices received in the prohibited funding case, a request that was accepted. A four-member bench, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, held a hearing on a notice served to PTI chairman Imran Khan in the case. Owing to his schedule, PTI’s lawyer Shah Khawar did not appear at the hearing. However, the party’s assistant lawyer Naveed Anjum represented the party in the hearing. He said that there are several documents in the case which he has to gather which requires time. The lawyer then sought two weeks from the commission to submit a detailed response to the notice.
In response to the request, the CEC asked PTI’s lawyer why he has to collect the documents when he already possesses them, as he had been part of the entire process. Anjum responded by saying that the party is collecting documents from foreign chapters. The hearing of the case was adjourned till September 6, after PTI’s request for extra time was approved by the commission.

Kiely Rodni case: California sex offender arrested on unrelated charge as result of search for missing girl

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Two weeks after the suspicious disappearance and possible abduction of California 16-year-old Kiely Rodni, the investigation led to the arrest of a local sex offender on unrelated charges, police say.

"The operation, which occurred on Thursday, Aug. 18, resulted in several sex registrants being found in violation of their terms, with one arrest being made and criminal charges to be filed on another," the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning. "The Truckee Police Department routinely conducts similar sweeps and is committed to aggressively pursuing prosecution of those offenders found to be out of compliance with any probation or parole terms."

Rodni’s unsolved disappearance prompted the compliance checks, but the arrests were not directly related to her case, according to investigators. Truckee police did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the arrested suspect.

Across state lines in nearby Incline, Nevada, deputies performed a similar check on a sex offender Wednesday but said it had no connection to Rodni’s disappearance. Back in California, a mutli-agency task force investigating the girl's case is also asking additional witnesses to come forward.

Rodni was last seen at an outdoor party within the Tahoe National Forest that stretched from the evening of Aug. 5 into Aug. 6.

The 16-year-old early high school graduate was drinking and "partying" with friends and was likely too inebriated to drive, one partygoer, 18-year-old Sami Smith, told Fox News Digital.

MISSING KIELY RODNI: MASSIVE SEARCH AS FRIENDS REVEAL TEEN'S LAST KNOWN FOOTSTEPS IN POSSIBLE ABDUCTION CASE

There were about 200 to 300 people in attendance, mostly juveniles and young adults, according to the Place County Sheriff’s Office.

Of those, detectives have interviewed between a third and half of them, according to Angela Musallam, the sheriff’s public information officer.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's office shared a surveillance image that showed Rodni's outfit on the night she went missing.

"Although our detectives have interviewed over 100 partygoers, they would still like some more cooperation," she told Fox News Digital Friday.

Investigators have still not been able to speak with anyone who actually saw Rodni leaving, and the sheriff’s office is asking for anyone who has not yet spoken with detectives to do so. Authorities are also asking for people to continue submitting tips, including videos and photos taken at the party.

Rodni texted her mother around midnight saying she was headed home. At 12:33 a.m. on Aug. 6, her phone last pinged near the site of the party, a clearing in the woods between the Prosser Family Campground and Prosser Creek Reservoir outside Truckee, California.

The party also included visitors from out of town, and Musallam said that "the majority of them" have been identified.

Investigators said Monday they were scaling down the massive search effort, which involved days of aerial surveillance and dive teams, to a task force-based investigation.

"We are still looking for any clues, videos, tips, any information to help us to put pieces together and help us to direct where we're going and how we're going to continue to do a search," Capt. Sam Brown, of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, said during a news briefing.

The case for single-stock ETFs

With a wave of single-stock ETFs hitting the marketplace this summer, more firms are expanding their product lines to include funds that home in on the daily activity of one particular security.

"These are tools that are really intended to be used as a tactical trading vehicle," Dave Mazza, managing director and head of product at Direxion, told Bob Pisani in an interview on CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday.

"Specifically, someone who has the ability and interest to monitor their positions on a daily basis," he added.

Direxion launched the first four of its single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs last week that allow traders to obtain magnified or inverse exposure to the daily performance of Apple and Tesla. The Daily TSLA Bear 1X shares (TSLS), Daily TSLA Bull 1.5x Shares ETF (TSLL), Daily AAPL Bull 1.5x (AAPU) and Daily AAPL Bear  1x (AAPD).

There are currently single-stock ETFs for Tesla, Apple, Coinbase, Nike, Pfizer, Paypal and NVIDIA, allowing investors to go both leveraged long and to bet short against individual stocks. Tesla in particular has attracted interest, with five single-stock products.

"There was a regulatory rule change in the last couple of years that allowed this to happen," Will Rhind, CEO of GraniteShares, said on 'ETF Edge' on Monday.

"We've had leveraged products on broad indices such as the QQQs, we've had leveraged ETFs on commodities which have been very popular," he said. "And so now single stocks are the next generation in that category."

GraniteShares also listed its suite of short and leveraged single-stock exchange traded funds last week: the 1.25x Long Tesla Daily ETF (TSL), 1x Short TSLA Daily ETF (TSLI), 1.75x Long AAPL Daily (AAPB) and 1.5x Long Coinbase Daily (CONL).

As single-stock product launches accelerate, SEC Chair Gary Gensler has already voiced his concerns ETFs. In a speech in May, he said these funds "can present unique and potentially significant risks to investors across market sectors."

"There are some proposals in the table to limit the exposure to the retail community of complex ETFs," Reggie Brown, principal at GTS, said on "ETF Edge" on Monday. "I think that's a giant mistake."

Brown explained that the concept of a single-stock ETF is not a new idea, but first proposed in 2009 when low-priced corporate equities were trading in the teens. And certain institutional investors could not hold low-priced securities.

"It serves a purpose," he said. "I think that this type of ETF has the ability to have a thousand different corporate equities inside them and bring innovation to the marketplace. This is a good thing."

Mazza added that broker dealers have put rules in place to make it clear that the products are intended to be used as trading vehicles, such as an aggressive trading profile.

"As opposed to limiting access, we believe that we need to promote education and the utility of how these products can be used," Mazza said. "But also, there may be a need — particularly in heightened times of volatility — for those who are interested and those who understand the inherent risk to express viewpoints and amplify their exposure on a daily basis."

Volumes in leveraged and inverse ETFs have soared since the start of the pandemic, and the demand has held up in 2022. The boost in trading volume of leveraged and inverse ETFs such as SQQQ and its opposite TQQQ has led to the Nasdaq-indexed ETFs outpacing the S&P 500 in the second quarter of 2022.

"During Covid, we had more engagement by new retail investors into the marketplace," Brown said. "And as they understood more of the products that were available for them to express themselves their views, we saw an explosion in trading from a day trading perspective."

Brown said that there are likely some investors that have amplified returns, with daily returns of anywhere between 4% and 10%. It boils down to suppliers like Direxion and GraniteShares fulfilling a demand, he said.

"There's institutions that want to use these products, and there's big demand for them," Brown said. "If you look at the high-priced stocks such as Tesla, there's a lot of day trading in these corporate equities and having it into an ETF provides leverage. It's just meeting a need."

Tucker Carlson: Inflation Reduction Act may be a classic case of misinformation

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

People say the federal government seems big, maybe bigger than ever. Well, it actually is the largest employer in the world. The federal government, nothing else comes close—not Google, not Amazon, not the Communist Party of China, nothing. How many people work for the United States government? Let's put it this way. There are more than 100 countries around the world whose total populations (that is, every man, woman and child) are smaller than our federal workforce—entire countries, many of them.

The U.S. government, in other words, is astoundingly large, world historically big, scale without precedent, truly gargantuan. So, what do all those people who work there do every day? You may be wondering that. Well, it's a good question. Actually, nobody's really sure, including many of the employees themselves. Fundamentally, the federal government is a mystery. Like the universe, it goes on forever. It makes you feel small thinking about it, which is probably the point.

The good news is, every once in a while, our government does something you can actually understand. That happened recently when Joe Biden signed a $750 billion piece of legislation called the Inflation Reduction Act. What does the Inflation Reduction Act do? Come on, what are you, slow? The answer is right there in the name. The Inflation Reduction Act is an act that reduces inflation. It's an inflation-reducing act and that's welcome news because inflation is indeed a problem. In fact, voters say it's the problem they worry about most.

So, Congress has decided to reduce it. That's how things work in Washington. You would identify a crisis, and then you pass a law making it illegal. Crisis solved. It's simple. Getting too hot for you in the summer? No problem, just have Congress write a law banning high temperatures. That's effectively our climate change policy and as we know, it works. The science on that has been settled. Don't deny it. Now, Congress has decided to bring that very same approach to inflation. Just command it to go down.

TRUDEAU CELEBRATES CANADIAN WINDFALL FROM BIDEN SIGNING INFLATION REDUCTION ACT

You can imagine how terrified inflation will be when it discovers it's being reduced by our all-powerful Congress. "Wait," it'll say in horror, "You passed an Inflation Reduction Act? Okay, fine. I surrender. Gas is now $1.50 a gallon. Hamburgers, two bucks a pound. Sorry for the high prices." That's the promise of this act anyway, but in real life, a lot of people are still wondering, "How is this going to work?"

Hilary Vaughn from Fox was wondering that, so yesterday she caught up with Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Manchin is the man, the single man whose vote made this bill possible. "Is the Inflation Reduction Act really going to reduce inflation?" she asked. Here's how Joe Manchin responded:

HILLARY VAUGHN: When it comes to inflation, is it misleading to call this the "Inflation Reduction Act" for Americans when it's not going to make their grocery bill cheaper, it's not going to make every day goods cheaper for them?

SEN. JOE MANCHIN: Why would it? Why would it? Well, immediately, it's not. We've never seen anything happen immediately, like turn the switch on and off.

BIDEN SIGNS $739 BILLION INFLATION REDUCTION ACT INTO LAW, SLAMS GOP FOR VOTING AGAINST THE TAX, CLIMATE DEAL

So, as Hillary Vaughn pointed out correctly the law won't immediately make anything cheaper to buy. In other words, it will not reduce inflation, but Joe Manchin didn't deny this. He didn't seem bothered by it. In fact, his response was, "Why would it?" Well, let's see, because you told us it would, you dishonest little creep, and then you printed another $750 billion of fake money, which is exactly the habit that caused historic inflation in the first place, all this fake money printing.

So, what's the upside of this bill exactly? Joe Manchin didn't say. Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland couldn't explain it either. Watch this.

REP. JAMIE RASKIN: I know that those who have been blaming President Biden for the inflation going up are now giving President Biden all the credit for inflation going down, so we're moving things in the right direction already.

REPORTER: And what parts of the bill do you think will quickly work on that specifically?

RASKIN: Next question.

SEN. TOM COTTON’S 2022 MISSION TO ‘PUT THE BRAKES’ ON BIDEN’S AGENDA MAY BE PRELUDE FOR POTENTIAL 2024 RUN

"I'm Jamie Raskin. I'll say anything."

"What parts of the Inflation Reduction Act will actually reduce inflation?"

"Next question," says Raskin. He actually said that out loud, as you just saw. In other words, "You've caught me lying and I don't even care. Go away, peasant." So, as it turns out, we hate to break this to you, the Inflation Reduction Act may be a classic example of misinformation. Imagine buying a bottle labeled "shampoo" and finding out the hard way it was actually drain cleaner. It's like that. So, if there's one thing we can learn from the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, it's that in Washington, words no longer have any meaning at all.

The empire has officially entered its postmodern phase, where there's no connection whatsoever between the sounds that emerge from the mouths of our leaders and observable physical reality. Congress might as well have called this the Eternal Happiness Act. And why not? That's probably the name of the next bill Joe Biden signs and we hope so, because we are long overdue for Washington to ban sadness. They ought to get on that, not that this bill was even thought about by Joe Biden, not that he even noticed this bill. Biden doesn't get too caught up in the meaning of words these days. Biden is definitively post-literate at this point. Here was the scene as he signed his most recent legislative triumph.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: OK.

SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER: It's now law.

Here we go. They might as well put a sign on his desk saying, "This guy has no idea what he's doing right now" because he didn't and it couldn't have been more obvious. The thousand-yard stare was the giveaway. There were doughboys in Verdun who looked less shell shocked than Biden just did, but the question remained, "What was in the bill?" Well, let's see. You'll be happy to know that this bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, includes $3 billion for the U.S. Postal Service to buy new electric mail trucks.

So, why would your mailman need an electric mail truck? No one has ever explained that, but your mailman is getting one and China is getting even richer from the electric mail truck batteries, which it makes. So, there's that. Then there's another $3 billion allocated to block grants for something called environmental justice that will be overseen by the EPA, which used to look after the environment, but now it's in the justice business. Environmental justice gets about $60 billion in this legislation, which is great if you're in the environmental justice business, but it leaves the rest of us wondering, "What is environmental justice actually?"

CHRIS HAYES PROCLAIMS BIDEN SIGNING INFLATION REDUCTION ACT A 'HUGE DAY FOR THE COUNTRY, THE PLANET, EVERYONE'

Well, according to the bill, it means and we are quoting here, "facilitating engagement of disadvantaged communities in state and federal advisory groups, workshops, rulemaking and other public processes." OK. That sounds confusing, but also expensive. In all, the EPA alone gets more than $40 billion in this bill, including more than $30 billion for so-called disadvantaged communities. What are those? Well, they're not really defined, people who vote for Joe Biden. So, what it really means is the EPA is going to spread more identity politics and race hate. Are you sick of that yet? The Biden White House is not sick of it. They're all in.

For context, to show you just how all in they are on that, the total annual budget of the EPA currently stands at about $10 billion. So, this is a lot of money flowing to equity and the disadvantaged and of course, everything hangs on definitions. So, who gets to define what disadvantages, a disadvantaged community? Well, that would be the EPA's administrator, a guy called Michael Regan,

This is a guy who's in his late forties who has never had an actual job in his life, never worked for real business of any kind, but he does have priorities and to give you some sense of what they are, we'll tell you what he told The Daily Show this year and we're quoting, "Everything I do at EPA is through the lens of environmental justice, contracting, procurement, air quality, water quality, land management, starts with 'Are we protecting the least among us, those who have lacked political representation and those who have not been at the table for decades’?"

So really, this is about spreading race hate as virtually everything they do is. They call it equity. It's not about protecting the environment and if you're wondering how the environment's doing, take a very close look.Is anyone monitoring the chemicals in our water? No. We're busy conducting workshops for billions of dollars with disadvantaged communities. Right. That may not be helping the environment, but it's definitely not reducing inflation.

Inflation reduction is not the same as protecting people who lack political representation. That's, of course, Joe Biden's base, the 81 million who voted for him. That's what this bill is really about, rewarding his voters. That would include virtually every bureaucrat in Washington. They do very well on this bill, of course, as long as they promise to spend it on equity, however, they want to define that.

REPORTERS BLASTED FOR ABANDONING INFLATION REDUCTION ACT TITLE WITH BILL SIGNING: 'AREN'T EVEN TRYING ANYMORE'

There's $25 million for the Government Accountability Office to determine, "whether the economic, social and environmental impacts of the funds described in this paragraph are equitable." The bill also calls for $10 million to be spent on "equity commissions" within the Department of Agriculture to combat racism. In other words, to commit racism. Really, not since the German government 80 years ago has any government ever pay closer attention to people's genetics. That's true and yet no one notices it for some reason. Well, we do.

There's more than $2 billion for the General Services Administration. Something called the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council, that gets $350 million. The Bureau of Indian Affairs gets $220 million. The Office of Native Hawaiian Relations gets $23 million and it's not just bureaucrats who are getting paid. There are billions of dollars in new tax credits. Who do those go to? Joe Biden's donors. Of course, not to you. Are you in private equity? No, you're not, so you don't get anything. Biden described these credits yesterday.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: The Inflation Reduction Act, invests $369 billion to take the most aggressive action ever, ever, ever, ever, in confronting the climate crisis and strengthening our economic, our energy security. It's going to offer working families thousands of dollars in savings by providing them rebates to buy new and efficient appliances, weatherize their homes, get tax credit for purchasing heat pumps and rooftop solar, electric stoves, ovens, dryers.

WHITE HOUSE NOT SAYING WHEN THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT WILL BEGIN TO CUT INFLATION

So, you watch that and you realize maybe they are going to run him again because he doesn't actually exist. He is merely a conduit through which they change America. He has no idea what he's saying. He reads the script. He seems kind of non-threatening and out of it. That may seem embarrassing to you, a problem to you. You wonder, "What does his wife think of all this? It's so demeaning and degrading. It's cruel to do this to a guy, feed him full of drugs and having read someone else's script," but if you're trying to change the country really fast, this is very useful to you, so of course, they're going to run him again.

So, again to the bill, a nonprofit called Rewiring America, which supports this bill, decided to figure out how much money Americans are eligible to receive from the Inflation Reduction Act based on zip code, household income, tax filing status. So, according to Rewiring America, a married couple with one child in San Francisco earning the median household income there of $120,000 would be eligible for nearly $12,000 in tax credits, but according to that same group, that same family of three making the median income in Youngstown, Ohio, for example, would be eligible for just $81 in tax credits. Oh, that's weird. So, the middle-class kid shafted while people making 120 grand in San Francisco make out. OK.

So, most Americans who are making middle-class wages will be eligible for more savings only if they're willing to go out and spend thousands of dollars on things like a new heat pump water heater, an electric stove or a heat pump closed dryer. Right, none of which work very well, but the bigger issue is that all these tax credits for Joe Biden's base are going to increase inflation. This is the same thing that happened to college tuition when the government subsidized it. It got much more expensive. Perfect, and that's already started. As The Washington Examiner has reported, electric vehicle manufacturers are now raising the price of their cars now that the so-called Inflation Reduction Act includes a $770,500 tax credit for electric vehicles, "Ahead of the Inflation Reduction Act, extending the tax credit of up to $7,500 for purchases of new electric and hybrid vehicles, Ford and GM announced price increases at similar rates." You following this?

WILL CAIN: WHY IS JOE BIDEN HIRING ALL OF THESE IRS AGENTS?

So, the government pays you back your own money to buy a product and then the manufacturer of the product raises the cost of that same product by the same amount. Oh, so it's a subsidy for them, not savings for you. "Last week, Ford announced price hikes between $6,000 and $8,500 for most of its lineup of its F-150 lightning electric vehicles, while General Motors upped its electric Hummer costs by $6,250 last month."

So, what does that? They don't want to answer the question because the only potentially deflationary aspect of this bill is the tax increase, which is, of course, probably not a good idea when you're in a recession, but our government is not willing to cut spending and stop printing money, so instead their solution is to take money from you. This is classic, right? So, you print all the money you want because you hold the reserve currency and then when inflation goes up, you just try and pull it out of the system through taxation. That's modern monetary theory. Look it up. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this act will cost the middle-class $20 billion a year in new taxes. The Joint Committee on Taxation has concluded that under this bill, 61% of taxpayers make between $40,000 and $50,00 will see a tax increase.

91% of Americans make between $75,000 and $100,000 will see their taxes go up and 97% of Americans make between $100,000 and $200,000 will see their taxes go up. So, if you're making 100 grand in Arlington, Virginia, are you rich? Oh, no. You're barely scraping by. So, it turns out that Biden was lying. Just yesterday, he told us that no one making under $400,000 a year will see their taxes go up. Watch.

BIDEN SLAMMED FOR SIGNING INFLATION REDUCTION ACT: ‘DARK DAY FOR EVERYDAY AMERICANS’

President Joe Biden holds a press conference.

President Joe Biden holds a press conference. (Fox News )

BIDEN: And I'm keeping my campaign commitment. No one, let me emphasize, no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay a penny more in federal taxes. Folks.

Yeah. Not a penny more. I mean, again, you can't blame the guy. He's just a mannequin, but whoever wrote that knew he was lying. There is one group of Americans who will not pay more under that bill and that's Biden's donors, the richest people in the country. Thanks to the Democratic Party's hedge fund support, and they have a lot of that, the private equity world, the final revision of this bill keeps the carried interest loophole in our tax code. That means that people who work in finance, many parts of finance, are able to report their income as interest and pay half the taxes that you do. No one can defend this policy. It is indefensible. Even the people who benefit from it will not defend it. They're embarrassed of it. They take advantage of it, of course, but it's a scam and everybody knows it and yet it remains in our tax code because they paid off the Democratic senator from Arizona and a bunch of others.

So, just in case the message wasn't clear, the bill gives the IRS another $80 billion to hire 87,000 new auditors. So, what are those new auditors, those armed auditors of the IRS have to do with a tax code this unfair? Well, the truth is, if you have a tax code this unfair and it keeps getting more unfair every year, you have to hire armed goons to make people obey because they won't otherwise. 87,000 new armed IRS agents. How many is that? Well, for perspective, the IRS currently has about 78,000 total. So, this bill will make the IRS larger than the army of the nation of Italy, also the nation of the Philippines, also the U.K.. What? Thanks, Joe Manchin.

So, what are those agents going to be doing? We're not sure, but we do have an IRS training video for you. Watch.

UNDERCOVER AGENT: In addition to being accountants, we're also law enforcement officers, which is very interesting because a lot of the special agents that work for the IRS, they don't come from a law enforcement background. We get to do the same things like all the other law enforcement officers do. Things happen. We have to be able to respond, so we have to be ready.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

IRS SPECIAL AGENT: So, we teach our agents to fire a firearm, to be able to shoot. We teach them defensive tactics and methods of defending themselves and protecting others as well. So, they go through that entire process so that not only can they analyze records, but they also have that law enforcement component.

So, in an actual democracy, IRS agents should be taught to be polite, but under Joe Biden, IRS agents are taught "to shoot." How is that not war on the population of the country?

WHO urges caution after first case of monkeypox in dog

When viruses jump the species barrier it often sparks concern that they could mutate dangerously, but WHO has stressed that so far there were no reports that was happening with monkeypox.

Monkeypox causes fever, muscular aches and large boil-like skin lesions.

The World Health Organization has called for people infected with monkeypox to avoid exposing animals to the virus following a first reported case of human-to-dog transmission.

A first case of human-to-dog transmission of monkeypox was reported last week in the medical journal The Lancet. The case was reported in a greyhound in Paris.

"This is the first case reported of human-to-animal transmission... and we believe it is the first instance of a canine being infected," Rosamund Lewis, the WHO's technical lead for monkeypox, told reporters on Wednesday.

Experts had been aware of the theoretical risk that such a jump could happen, she said, adding that public health agencies had already been advising those suffering from the disease to "isolate from their pets".

She also said "waste management is critical" to lowering the risk of contaminating rodents and other animals outside the household.

When viruses jump the species barrier it often sparks concern that they could mutate dangerously.

Lewis stressed that so far there were no reports that was happening with monkeypox.

But she acknowledged that "as soon as the virus moves into a different setting in a different population, there is obviously a possibility that it will develop differently and mutate differently".

The main concern revolves around animals outside of the household.

"The more dangerous situation... is where a virus can move into a small mammal population with high density of animals," WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan told reporters.

"It is through the process of one animal infecting the next and the next and the next that you see rapid evolution of the virus."

He stressed though that there was little cause for concern around household pets.

"I don't expect the virus to evolve any more quickly in one single dog than in one single human," he said, adding that while "we need to remain vigilant... pets are not a risk."

Global health emergency

Monkeypox was originally identified in monkeys kept for research in Denmark in 1958, though it is found most frequently in rodents.

The disease was first discovered in humans in 1970, with the spread since then mainly limited to certain West and Central African countries.

But in May, cases of the disease, which causes fever, muscular aches and large boil-like skin lesions, began spreading rapidly around the world.

Worldwide, more than 35,000 cases have been confirmed since the start of the year in 92 countries, and 12 people have died, according to the WHO, which has designated the outbreak a global health emergency.

With global case numbers jumping by 20 percent in the past week alone, the UN health agency is urging all countries to do more to rein in the spread, including ensuring at-risk populations have access to services and information about the dangers and how to protect themselves.

There is also a vaccine, originally developed for smallpox, but it is in short supply.

Lewis also stressed that there was still little data on the effectiveness of the vaccine in protecting against monkeypox in the current outbreak.

  • Hamza comments on Punjab CM elections, says will seek justice from court.

LONDON: Former Punjab chief minister Hamza Shahbaz Saturday said all coalition government parties have unanimously decided to take PTI’s prohibited funding case to its "logical conclusion".

Speaking to journalists after meeting party supremo Nawaz Sharif, Hamza said: “The nation will hold declared Sadiq and Ameen [Imran Khan] accountable for calling others, thieves and robbers.”

“If Nawaz was disqualified for not taking salary from his son then Khan is immersed in prohibited funding from head to toe,” he added.

Regarding PTI’s demand for snap polls, Hamza stated that elections will be held as per schedule in 2023, adding that he is hopeful that his uncle will lead the election campaign of his party.

The PML-N leader, while commenting on Punjab CM’s election, said that they will not leave this matter like this and will seek justice from the court.

“When a full court will be formed in this matter then the case will be crystal clear,” he added.

Hamza had to quit the office of CM after the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the PTI petition against the deputy speaker's ruling. Pervez Elahi of the PML-Q replaced him as Punjab CM due to the verdict.

Hamza arrived in London on a private visit on Friday and is expected to stay in the British capital for a few days. During his stay in London, the former chief minister met party supremo, Nawaz Sharif, who is there since 2019 and other family members.

  • She highlights govt had nothing to do with foreign funding case, and it was Akbar S Babar who filed petition.
  • Information minister announces govt has decided to file a declaration against PTI in SC.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb Thursday said that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will carry out a complete investigation into PTI's foreign funding case.

Speaking during a press conference following the government's cabinet meeting in the federal cabinet, Aurangzeb said that starting today, an inquiry has been started against "all those involved in this crime."

"The government will take an action in the light of the Election Commission of Pakistan's verdict and there will be an investigation as to where the funds were used," she said, adding that "all of them would have been in jail if the verdict had come during Imran Khan's tenure."

The information minister highlighted that the government had nothing to do with the foreign funding case, and it was Akbar S Babar — the founding member of the PTI — who filed a petition.

“The PTI has been declared a foreign-aided party by the ECP in its decision which was issued after eight years under the Political Parties Order 2002 and the Election Act 2017,” she said.

"It has been eight years and the PTI still hasn't provided any answers. The State Bank of Pakistan showed records in the ECP which showed that the PTI had postponed the hearing 75 times during these years," she said, adding that the Khan-led has been declared a "foreign-funded party".

The information minister announced that the government has decided to file a declaration against PTI  — in a bid to get the party dissolved — in the Supreme Court.

"The PTI failed to declare 16 accounts. The accounts were opened in the names of the party leaders where they used to receive money," she added.

Shedding light on the relief measures being carried out for the flood victims in Balochistan, Aurangzeb said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the flood-affected areas.

"PM Shehbaz directed to give Rs1 million as compensation to the families that lost their loved ones and Rs500,00 to those whose houses were destroyed," said the PML-N leader.

The minister added that the premier issued instructions to the administration for the immediate rehabilitation of the victims.

Covid-19: The curious case of the 'Paxlovid rebound'

The condition grabbed international attention last week when US President Joe Biden tested positive for the virus six days after testing negative following his first bout of the illness.

The White House said Biden, who is back in isolation, was experiencing a bit of a "loose cough" but did not have a fever and his lungs were "clear."
The President tested positive again after being treated with the antiviral Paxlovid. White House officials had previously suggested a rebound case of Covid was unlikely, based on reports of cases around the country, but Biden's doctors continued to monitor his health and test him.

Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House Covid response coordinator, said clinical data shows the rate of rebound infections is low and noted that even those who suffer them are still generally protected from serious illness.

Biden is not the only high-profile patient to develop the condition. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci also experienced rebound Covid-19. Unlike Biden's, his symptoms got worse when they returned after treatment with Paxlovid, and his doctors prescribed another course of the drug.

Experts have been calling for more systematic research into the instances of rebound to understand who is most at risk and whether the standard five-day course of Paxlovid should be lengthened to prevent it.

Studies have shown that people can pass the infection to others during a rebound, which is another reason to try to understand it better.
The United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health alert to doctors in May about the potential for Covid-19 rebound, saying symptoms sometimes come back, and that may just be how the infection plays out in some people, regardless of whether they're vaccinated or treated with medications like Paxlovid.

The CDC said most cases of rebound involve mild disease and that Paxlovid "continues to be recommended for early-stage treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 among persons at high risk for progression to severe disease."

Pfizer, the company that makes Paxlovid, has said its studies showed rebounds were rare, and that they happened in both people who took the drug and those who took a placebo pill. Because investigators noted the phenomenon in both groups, the company doesn't believe it is tied to the medication.

YOU ASKED. WE ANSWERED.

Q: How does Paxlovid work?

A: Considered a game-changer when it was authorized in December because of its strong performance in lowering the risk of severe Covid-19, Paxlovid -- in combination with vaccines and boosters -- is thought to be one of the best ways to protect people at high risk for severe illness.

The drug suppresses the coronavirus, blocking an enzyme that helps it reproduce inside the body.

As with all antivirals, the treatment is thought to work best if started within five days of the first symptoms appearing.

Clinical trials of Paxlovid showed that it reduced the risk of hospitalization and death by 88% when given within five days of the start of symptoms.

Most US public schools plan to keep masks optional for start of classes

Students are heading to another school year amid the Covid-19 pandemic, but this time, there seem to be fewer discussions and less fretting about masks and other mitigation measures -- despite a rise in infections across the country.

Most of the largest public school districts in the US are not requiring masks for the new school year, making masking optional as students return to classes and the highly transmissible BA.5 subvariant spreads.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta: Are we making the same mistakes?

The pandemic, which has held the US and almost every other country in its grip, should have taught us valuable lessons about how to manage a public health emergency. But it seems we are making some of the same mistakes with the monkeypox virus that we made not even three years ago when the SARS-CoV-2 virus started to spread.

Testing for monkeypox, once very limited, is now more available, but underused. The demand for vaccines is outpacing the supply. There are nearly 2 million courses of the highly effective TPOXX antiviral sitting in the Strategic National Stockpile, but many health care providers are still having a hard time getting the medication for their patients.

At this time, only 336,710 doses have been shipped to states. Ordering only just began for about 800,000 more doses. This scarcity has created long lines in monkeypox hotspots like New York City, which has the highest number of cases in the country.

Updated Covid-19 booster shots could be available in September

Moderna and Pfizer booster shots updated to target Omicron coronavirus subvariants could be available in the US in the early fall, pending signoff by federal health agencies, the US Department of Health and Human Services said Friday.

The US Food and Drug Administration advised vaccine makers in June to update the boosters to add an Omicron BA.4/5 component and create a bivalent booster that would work for two different strains.

"Pfizer and Moderna have indicated that they anticipate the modified vaccines being available as early as September," an FDA spokesperson said.

Many children will soon be returning to schools -- while coronavirus cases are still high.

Parents and caregivers have a lot of questions about what precautions they should take. Do kids need to wear masks again? How often should families test kids? What happens if their kids contract Covid-19? How long should they stay out of school? CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen answers the most pressing questions.
