Pakistan Women head coach David Hemp not to extend two-year contract in October

David Hemp, the head coach of Pakistan Women, will not extend his two-year contract in October, the PCB confirmed on Tuesday. Hemp, who was the second overseas coach for the women's team, said he took the "difficult decision" to spend more time with his young family.
"I have enjoyed living in Pakistan and working with the women cricketers, but it has also been difficult on me and my young family as I have been unable to spend enough time with them like any other father," Hemp said in a statement issued by PCB. "After consulting my family, I have conveyed this difficult decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board, which has very graciously understood my situation and accepted my decision.

"It has been incredibly enjoyable and satisfying working with the girls. Although results in international arena may not truly reflect the hard work and effort that went into the planning and preparations, I am satisfied that I gave my very best and the girls equally responded."

Hemp had taken charge from Iqbal Imam, who was appointed in an interim capacity after Mark Coles' exit in October 2019. He oversaw Pakistan's progress in the Women's World Cup Qualifier last year, the Women's World Cup earlier this year and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last month.
While Pakistan failed to get past the league stages at the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, they managed to end their streak of 18 losses in the competition in New Zealand, when they beat West Indies by eight wickets. Moreover, the rise of young Fatima Sana has been one of the positives from Hemp's tenure.

"I was especially pleased with the emergence of Fatima Sana, who won the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2021 award and became the first Pakistan women cricketer to win the ICC Cricketer of the Month award and displayed her excellent talent in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games," he said. "I am optimistic we will see many more young women cricketers from domestic competitions and talent hunt programmes to enter the Pakistan framework and contribute in the teams' future achievements.

"I want to thank everyone at the Pakistan Cricket Board, women's wing and the entire side who not only backed and supported me but also made my stay memorable and comfortable. I will remain a big fan of Pakistan women's cricket, will continue to follow their progress with excitement and remain confident that better results and successes await them down the road."

More recently, ahead of the Commonwealth Games, Pakistan blanked Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series at home before taking the ODI series 2-1. Their next assignment is the ODI series at home against Ireland in November, which will be part of the ICC Women's Championship.

Tania Mallick, PCB head of women's wing, paid tribute to Hemp by saying, "It is sad to lose someone of David's caliber, enthusiasm and strong work ethics, but at the same we also understand and accept that family has to come first. The PCB thanks David for all his efforts and contributions, and wishes him best of luck in his future endeavours."

BCB to decide on Russell Domingo's future as Bangladesh head coach on Monday

The BCB will take a call on Russell Domingo's future as Bangladesh's head coach on August 22. Board president Nazmul Hassan has indicated that Bangladesh are "trying to separate" roles and that Domingo might stay on as the Test and ODI coach. Hassan had said a couple of days ago that the BCB were looking to make "drastic changes" ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup
It is understood that BCB and Domingo haven't been on the best of terms over the last 12 months. Bangladesh's recent losses in the T20I and ODI series in Zimbabwe has added to the tension. Jalal Yunus, BCB's cricket operations chairman, had even said earlier this month that Domingo wasn't aggressive enough as a coach in the T20 format.

Domingo is also set to take part in the BCB discussions on Monday.

"We haven't decided on (Domingo)," Hassan said on Friday. "We will sit together on August 22, and then we will decide. There will be a lot of changes. Not just one or two. Whether we will include Russell Domingo in our changes or not, will be decided on August 22. We will listen to everyone on that day. For now, we want Domingo to concentrate on Tests and ODIs. We are trying to separate everything.

"There's so much cricket that it is hard for Domingo to concentrate on three formats. He can't even go to some of the series, if you look at our contract with him. He has specific breaks. We have to keep these things in mind. It is not that easy."

Under Domingo, Bangladesh have won just 19 out of 46 T20Is. They achieved 4-1 and 3-2 wins against Australia and New Zealand last year but many believe those two victories were because of tailor-made raging turners in Mirpur. Bangladesh had a poor T20 World Cup last year, losing all their matches in the Super 12 round, and later lost series against Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

"Mentality is one of the factors," Hassan said. "There's no connection between Tests and ODIs with T20s. So considering these things, we are trying to plan separately. We might separate the coaching staff too, if possible. We will see what happens in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. Then we will take that decision. Whether we will keep Sriram after the T20 World Cup or not, will depend on the performance."

In Tests under Domingo, Bangladesh have won three out of 20 matches and are languishing at the bottom of the World Test Championship table - they finished last in the previous WTC cycle too. Their only significant win was against New Zealand at the start of 2022. Bangladesh have had a good run in the ODIs under Domingo, winning seven out of nine series under him.

Charlotte Edwards needs 'thinking time' as she considers England head coach role

Charlotte Edwards has said she will need some "thinking time over the next few weeks" to weigh up whether she should apply for the vacancy of England women's head coach.
Edwards, who captained England from 2006 to 2016, has developed her reputation as a coach since her professional retirement in 2017 and is widely considered to be the front-runner for the role after Lisa Keightley confirmed this week that she would step down when her contract expires at the end of this summer.
Edwards coached Southern Brave to the final of the inaugural Hundred last year while her Southern Vipers side have won the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy twice and lifted the T20 trophy - named the Charlotte Edwards Cup in her honour - earlier this year. In May, she was appointed Sydney Sixers coach for the WBBL, and will be a leading candidate to coach a team in the Women's IPL next year.

"My phone has been a bit red-hot this week," Edwards told Sky Sports before her Brave side beat London Spirit in their season-opener at the Ageas Bowl, "but I haven't given it much thought.

"You know I'm ambitious, you know I love England, and at some point I do want to coach England. I'm not going to shy away from that.

"But at the moment, this [the Hundred] is my priority - and my work here at the Vipers, which I absolutely love. It's going to have to be a big job to take me away from what I'm doing at the moment.

"I want to develop myself as a coach, and one of the reasons I took on the Sydney Sixers role is to develop myself and take on a head coach role in a different country. And the IPL is very appealing, it is. But I'm England through and through and I love my country. I think I've got to have a lot of thinking time over the next few weeks."

Danni Wyatt, who top-scored in Brave's chase against Spirit, said that Edwards would be a good option if she decided to apply for the role. "We are very lucky to have her here at the Vipers and the Brave," she told the ECB Reporters Network. "She is a fantastic coach and she brings out the best in all the players.

"She knows what we all need individually, knows what we need to do in training and everyone's game inside and out. If she wants to do it, I'm sure she will be a good coach for England. We saw what a great leader she was when she was captain for England.

"She really cares about every player, she knows what works for the individual and she is so passionate - which is so contagious. She wants us to win and get the best out of everyone."
