13 people dead due to the turn of the boat in sindh still now

Deputy commissioner says death tolls rise to 13.Total of seven people, including children, drowned.
Search for more people is underway.

The death toll from a boat that capsized while carrying flood affectees near Sindh’s Bilawalpur earlier today is presumed to have surpassed 10 after officials said on Monday a search for more people is underway.

The deputy commissioner said that the death tolls rose to 13; while eight people have been rescued. Rescue sources said that nearly 25 flood victims were being taken to the relief camps when the incident took place.

A total of seven people, including children, drowned as the boat capsized, their bodies have been rescued and recovered.

A huge relief operation is underway in Pakistan as the country struggles to deal with monsoon flooding that has affected more than 33 million people.

Officials said 1,136 people have died since June when the seasonal rains began, but the final toll could be higher as hundreds of villages in the mountainous north have been cut off by flood-swollen rivers washing away roads and bridges.

Officials said this year's flooding has affected more than 33 million people — one in seven Pakistanis — destroying or badly damaging nearly a million homes.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority released on Monday, the death toll from monsoon flooding in Pakistan since June has reached 1,061. The NDMA said more than two million acres of cultivated crops have been wiped out, 3,457 kilometres (about 2,200 miles) of roads destroyed, and 157 bridges washed away.

FM Bilawal postpones European countries trip due to calamities caused by rains

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari postponed his official visits to four European countries in view of calamities across Pakistan caused by the ongoing heavy monsoon rains and flooding, a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said.

The foreign minister was set to depart on a four country-trip including Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway in a bid to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with Europe and share its perspective on regional and global issues from August 22-26.

According to the statement, Bilawal delayed his visits due to the heavy damages to lives and property caused by the torrential rains in the country.

The foreign minister is looking forward to his interactions with his counterparts, other dignitaries and media, as part of Pakistan’s continued engagement with Europe.

FM Bilawal's visits to these capitals will be rescheduled at mutually agreed later dates in consultation with the host governments, said the ministry.

Russian Spacewalk Cut Short Due to Issue With Suit

A spacewalk by two Russians on Wednesday was ended abruptly due to a problem with the battery in cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev's suit, though at no point was he in any danger, the U.S. and Russian space agencies said.

"Oleg, you must return to the airlock as soon as possible," the Earth-based Russian mission controllers ordered, more than two hours into his trip outside the International Space Station (ISS).

"Drop everything and go back," he was told multiple times, according to a live English translation broadcast by NASA.

The orders came soon after Artemyev reported abnormal voltage readings for his spacesuit's battery.

"Please do not worry, everything is fine. You are OK," the controllers said.

"Me? Worry? No way," responded 51-year-old Artemyev, who took over the commander position of the ISS in May from American astronaut Thomas Marshburn.

Artemyev made his way back into the airlock where he successfully reconnected to the ISS's main power.

He then waited for the second cosmonaut, Denis Matveyev, to gather all the supplies they had used on their mission, reenter and pressurize the airlock.

The spacewalk was declared finished after about four hours.

"The situation is under control... The health of the cosmonaut is not in danger," Roscomos said in a statement afterward.

"The crew is doing well," the Russian space agency added, noting that any uncompleted work will be finished later on.

Before the battery issue, the two cosmonauts installed two cameras outside the ISS.

"The duo was never in any danger during the operations," NASA said in a blogpost.

Wednesday's mission was the seventh spacewalk for Artemyev and the third for Matveyev.

FIFA suspends India's football federation due to 'third party influence'

Fast News

FIFA and the Asian football body dispatched a team to create a roadmap for the AIFF that includes the conclusion of elections at the latest by September 15.

FIFA has suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect because of "undue influence from third parties", world soccer's governing body said.

Monday's suspension also means that the Under-17 women's World Cup, which was scheduled to take place in India from October 11-30, cannot be held in the country as planned.

India's highest court had disbanded the AIFF in May and appointed a three-member committee to govern the sport, amend the AIFF's constitution and conduct elections that have been pending for 18 months.

In response, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation sent a team led by AFC general secretary Windsor John to meet Indian football stakeholders and laid down a roadmap for the AIFF to amend its statutes by the end of July and subsequently conclude elections at the latest by September 15.

"The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF's daily affairs," FIFA said in Monday's statement.

Political interference

Earlier this month, the Indian court ordered elections to be held promptly and said the elected committee would be an interim body for a period of three months.

The elections of the AIFF, formerly led by FIFA Council member Praful Patel, were to be held by December 2020 but were delayed due to an impasse over amendments to its constitution.

"FIFA is in constant constructive contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India and is hopeful that a positive outcome to the case may still be achieved," FIFA added.

According to FIFA statutes, member federations must be free from legal and political interference in their respective countries.

FIFA has previously suspended other national associations over similar cases.

Tesla's July sales of Chinese-made vehicles slide due to factory line upgrades

SHANGHAI: Tesla (TSLA.O) sold 28,217 Chinese-made vehicles in July, nearly two-thirds less than a month earlier as a scheduled upgrade to its factory lines in Shanghai disrupted production.

The U.S. carmaker exported 19,756 Model 3s and Model Ys from China last month, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA)said. In June, it sold 78,906 vehicles and exported 968.

Tesla China usually exports more cars at the beginning of a quarter while focusing more on domestic sales at the end.

Tesla suspended most of its production at the Shanghai plant in July due to an upgrade that aims to bring the factory’s weekly output to around 22,000 units compared with levels of around 17,000 in June, according to internal memos seen by Reuters.

The output ramp-up at Tesla’s most productive manufacturing hub comes after production losses during a two-month COVID lockdown in Shanghai hurt the company’s profit margin in the second quarter.

China’s overall passenger car sales in July jumped 20.1% from a year earlier to 1.84 million, the CPCA said.

Sales of electric cars accounted for 26.4% of the total in July and increased 117.3%, it added, with sales of plug-in hybrids outpacing pure electric cars.

The association now expects electric car sales for the whole year could reach 6 million units, higher than an earlier estimate of 5.5 million.

BYD (002594.SZ) led the EV players with 163,042 cars delivered in July, with plug-in hybrids accounting for more than half of its sales.

Nio , Xpeng (9868.HK) and Li Auto (2015.HK) delivered 10,052, 11,524 and 10,422 vehicles, respectively.

Sales of conventional hybrid cars in July also increased 81% from a year ago, with Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) and Honda Motor Co Ltd (7267.T) leading the segment.

Balochistan flood victims unable to attain rations due to absence of CNICs

  • Flood victims say administrations asking for their CNICs to receive rations.
  • Many affectees have lost everything in the floods, including CNICs.
  • Toll from torrential rains and flooding in Balochistan has reached 149.

LASBELA: The recent floods in Balochistan trigged by the rains have devastated the homes of thousands of people, especially in the province’s Lasbela District.

However, the flood affectees have accused the administration of treating them in a derogatory fashion during the distribution of rations by asking for original computerised national identity cards (CNICs).

The officials are reportedly seeking the CNICs for verification purposes, but the affectees have stated that they lost everything when their homes were flooded.

“Ration comes for us but they ask for CNICs. We did have some cards but not for everyone. How can a family of 10 survive on one card’s ration?” one of the victims told Geo News.

The victim appealed to the administration to resolve this issue, adding that if they feel they are lying, they can survey their homes to determine the number of people in a household.

“We are standing here for ration. We have not received anything [but] they are pushing us out. We can talk to the tehsildar when we go inside,” another victim told Geo News.

On the other hand, when Geo News reached out to the administration to get their version, they were only able to find empty offices.

So far, the toll from the torrential rains and flooding in Balochistan has reached 149.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has visited the province multiple times since the rains caused havoc on the province. He has said that the government is working day and night to help the affectees.

Earlier this week, the premier had assured that the rations were being provided to the victims rescued from the flood-affected areas.

PM Shehbaz further maintained that the federal, provincial, and other institutions were engaged in relief efforts, while medical camps were being established to curb viral diseases.

Warships of China, Taiwan eye each other as drills due to end

Rival ships circle in high seas "cat and mouse" as Beijing is set to end its unprecedented four days of military exercises that could lower tensions in the region.

Chinese and Taiwanese warships have played high-seas "cat and mouse", hours before the scheduled end of four days of unprecedented Chinese military exercises launched in reaction to a visit to Taiwan by the US house speaker.

Some 10 warships each from China and Taiwan sailed at close quarters in the Taiwan Strait on Sunday morning, with some Chinese vessels crossing the median line, an unofficial buffer separating the two sides, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

As Chinese forces "pressed" the line, as they did on Saturday, the Taiwan side stayed close to monitor and, where possible, deny the Chinese the ability to cross.

"The two sides are showing restraint, the person said, describing the manoeuvres as high seas "cat and mouse".

"One side tries to cross, and the other stands in the way and forces them to a more disadvantaged position and eventually return to the other side."

Taiwan said its shore-based anti-ship missiles and its Patriot surface -to-air-missiles were on stand-by.

Taiwan's Premier Su Tseng-chang said that China had "arrogantly" used military actions to disrupt regional peace and stability.

Speaking to reporters in Taipei on Sunday, Su also called on Beijing to not flex its military muscles, and condemned "foreign enemies" he said were attempting to sap the morale of the Taiwanese people through cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns.

Pelosi's visit triggers crisis

The Chinese exercises, centred on six locations around the island, began on Thursday and are scheduled to last until midday on Sunday.

China's military said on Saturday it was conducting sea and air joint exercises north, southwest and east of Taiwan with a focus on testing land-strike and sea-assault capabilities.

Nancy Pelosi's visit last week to the self-ruled island infuriated China, which responded with test launches of ballistic missiles over the island's capital for the first time and the cutting of communication links with the United States.

The United States called the exercises an escalation.

China halted communication through various channels with the United States as part of its response to Pelosi's visit, including between military theatre commands and on climate change.

Taiwan has been self-ruled since 1949, when Mao Zedong's communists took power in Beijing after defeating Chiang Kai-shek's Kuomintang nationalists in a civil war, prompting their retreat to the island.

China says Taiwan is its province and its relations with the island are an internal matter and it reserves the right to bring the it under its control, by force if necessary.

Commonwealth Games 2022 - Heather Knight to miss England's CWG 2022 opener due to hip trouble

Heather Knight will miss England's opening match of the Commonwealth Games, against Sri Lanka on Saturday, with a hip injury.
Knight, the England captain, suffered the injury during the first T20I against South Africa on July 21 and subsequently missed the remaining two matches of that series, which her side won in her absence.

Knight is hopeful of being fit for England's second game, against South Africa on Tuesday.

That means Nat Sciver, Knight's deputy, will captain England on their maiden appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

England swept the T20I leg 3-0 in their multi-format series against South Africa, which the hosts won by 14 points to two, having also won all three ODIs and drawn the Test match.

They managed comfortably in Knight's absence, winning the second T20I by six wickets with six balls remaining, Sciver, the stand-in captain on both occasions, top-scoring for England with 47 alongside Danni Wyatt's 24-ball 39 as England overhauled a target of 149.
In the final match, they promoted 17-year-old Alice Capsey, playing just her second international match and batting for the first time, to No. 3 when opener Sophia Dunkley fell for a first-ball duck. Capsey impressed with 25 off 17 balls, which included four consecutive fours, and spinner Sophie Ecclestone helped seal a 38-run victory with her unbeaten 33 off just 12 before taking 2 for 24.

Speaking before being ruled out of the Games opener, Knight said she believed her side would take a "massive amount of confidence" from their performances in the South Africa series.

"The main thing is we take that same mindset into a big world event, we take what we've done so well and perform it under pressure," Knight said. "You know that if you don't start well in those sorts of events you can be under the pump so it's so important that what we've done, we build on and we continue to have that mindset.

"There's still ways I think we can improve and I'd love to see us piece it all together in a big world event."

Capsey is one of two 17-year-olds in the England squad, along with left-arm seamer Freya Kemp, who took two wickets on debut in their last ODI bowling alongside another newcomer to the bowling ranks, 20-year-old quick Issy Wong.

"It's really exciting," Knight said. "The young girls have really added something to the squad. They've added that energy, that rawness, that fearlessness and for us older girls it's keeping us young and keeping us excited.

"I'm loving being part of the early stage of their careers and trying to help as much as I can and just let them loose and give them the confidence to do what they do and show off. I think we've got that nice combination of excited youth and hopefully a few wise old heads as well."
